This is so cool, I was talking to a colleague about shoot a video that would require the kinda motion the Kira does but my only solution was to build a gear that can make the motion to some extent then manipulate it in AE.

It's kind a hilarious to see people being "hyped" about something like this. In pretty much any industry something like this is very generic stuff. There isn't anything "revolutionary" looking from robotics tech side of things, actually quite the opposite. I might be impressed if I'd see real time audio recorded right from the tool setup with high speed moves. Surprise surprise we didn't see any 😉

this is awesome. belive it or not, this is actually a really reasonable price! i've looked into robotic arms, and they are usually rated for crazy weight usually. but if you look it up, you can find them pouring beer.
one thing you didn't think of is that it's not an easy, quick shot like you were looking to do while demoing it, but you could also film a sequence, swap the lens and re-focus for each step, and then re-shoot. then blend the shots. so you could do a series of crazy shots, but then swap a crazy macro lense on and have the last shot push in way further than you would expect.
fun fact, the first robotic film platform was used for blade runner! the city shot was all shot practically in camera by lighting different parts of the props on every pass

Wonder what the cost is for one of these bad boys compared to say, a fanuc robot? The only thing it has that fanuc doesn't is the software and the manual camera controls but I feel like those could be added to a fanuc.
I'd be interested to know if these robots work with other software like ROS. I know that's a more general environment, but the nerd in me wants to know if its possible.
