Says that I’m out of memory when I try to stack 2 images and I have no other applications open. I’m running a i5 8th gen (8 cores) and 8 gigs of ram. Though it doesn’t ask me to optimise my cores, but when I hover over the cpu, it says it’s not running at full optimisation.

Cool video, but the last version/update of Registax is from mai 2011. Does it still work???? I have a Laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 (8 Cores) and Win10 64bit. So it should be more than strong enough but it doesn't work. I can start Registax, i can add the pictures, i can set the alignpoints, but i can NOT align. Registax "starts" the align process and then it does nothing. 🙁

Your Sunny 16 rule is a good place to start with exposure. His is about a stop over exposed on the first try with Manual.

Oh Gosh, the moon is such a beautiful object I ever saw. I appreciate even more when I tried to take a picture the moon with a EOS Reel T7 with a telephoto lens that has a 500mm and F/8.0. Every craters was very detailed as a close up picture of a leaf. The seas, the highlands, the lines of the Tycho Crater, and the very shadows of the craters on the terminator line and the south pole; it was out of this world. Thank you for teaching us how to capture the beauty of the moon, I wish I knew this when I was a young lad; a lot of interesting stuff happened to our moon; eclipses, red moons, and etcetera. In short, thank you so much, I'll never forget this moment…

What shall be metering mode for this kind of shots? Center weighted / matrix or evaluating / spot.

Thnx a bunch,.I was wondering why my moon shots looked like crap

  15. blueckaym says

The should make an app similar to Registax that allows you to load your multiple images of the Moon, process* them for a while and give you in result the 'Best Moon Picture Ever'

    ..
    .
    * Disclaimer 'process' may or may not include downloading a high-res Moon picture from the internet 😉

  16. William B says

Quick newby question Tony, should you remove the UV filter prior to doing this?
Actually going out tonight to capture the full moon on the horizon and I can experiment with it on or off my 100-400mm Sigma f/5-6.3. Can’t wait to check it out on my Mark II.

I have seen on YouTube that Adobe Lightroom can also stack images and smart objects to improve sharpness and reduce noise, has anyone done a comparison with Lightroom and Registax which provides best results?

Several Single shots will be sharper……and using a tripod is probably better too.

Very hekpful but I disagree with some items – I would NEVER photoshop a sunset or twighlight scene with a full moon as you did. This can not happen nd looks FAKE to anyone who knows a little about moon phases. I also use AE settings by changing to a single point setting. and zeroing it in on the moon. I find a lighter zoom like the canon ef-s 55-250mm f/4-5.6 is stm telephoto zoom lens much easier to handhold for moon shots.
