Creative studio portrait session

7 56

Continuing with the loose theme of ‘Two Perspectives’, I corralled my friend Dave Block  into the studio on one of his visits to New York from Seattle.

The concept behind the initial Two Perspectives video was that I get to meet upwith a fellow photographer, and that something might be revealed in the contrasting styles and ideas during some kind of photo shoot.

Hopefully in that there will be a video that is informative and of wider interest.

Excellent video session Neil. I loved all the setups and will definately try these. Your use of the ambient light mix and gel flash looked great. I liked the shutter speed adjustment and use of the fan to capture the hair motion also. Dave's use of the two gels was amazing. Your model has gorgeous skin tone that really complimented the look. Great ideas!!!

There is a real art to capturing women of color. Although I understand you're trying to show the use of gels… but I want to showcase my model, her look should be STUNNING and the gelled lights accent her beauty. No one is ever going to say, "Wow look at those gels." Just my two cents. I also have a question for you, what are the pros of shooting a model at 1/10 of a sec. Thanks
