This video is likely my favorite of the composition in photography series that we’ve done so far. It was both difficult and interesting to research and I’m excited to share a timeline of photography history with you as far as abstraction goes.

Watch and enjoy!

Antoine-Henri Becquerel
Pierre Dubreuil

i love your channel but sometimes i get bored with all the talk about photography that can go on for minutes without hardly any imagery… i guess im inpatient but we're in visual industry and what you do here i wish i would see more  / where you show an image and can keep talking but the viewer is looking at something besides you. it might make a stronger connection to the subject you're elaborating on….

Similar to avant-garde jazz. Very few listened. Play to the masses not the critics.

I'm starting think that by commenting on how I disagree with your assrsment of abstract photography I have realized that e might be on the same page.

  23. Ryan Image 360 York says

I think a photo being "abstract" is heavily dependent upon the audiences opinion. Most of the examples given are of rather abstract techniques rather then abstract composition. Not to say that there isn't an element of abstraction in the composition. However, the reason these examples stand out is because the technique used to capture the image is abstract. Which might actually be the meaning behind abstract art. Abstract paintings are created in rather non-traditional techniques…humm?

Love the new style you've been adding to your latest episodes. I really like this one, it makes you think about photographic (art) movements. An episode on that (maybe a series?) would be excellent. Keep up the great work! Thank you for the show!
