Off topic… but you look like Keira Knightley and it makes me double take everytime I go through my feed 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

I do product photography for some of my clients and have found I can't do it without a gray card. Take the first shot with the card, then remove the card for the rest of the shots. Once you get the files into Lightroom you just use the white balance selector "eyedropper" to select the gray card and bingo, your white balance is correct. Copy the settings for that shot and paste them on all the others. Really helps if you have incandescent lights casting yellow light on your shot, natural light coming through windows casting blue light, or simply wall paint color bleeding in.

Thanks Lucy for this simple but very useful video. Question: do you have a focal length of preference for this type of shoot, or do you vary it according the object or the type of photo you want ?

Hey Lucy. Great vid and good subject. It’s such a simple method to use. It’s prompted me to start using this method for some of my daughters creative artwork. Btw is the camera in the vid the one that you are using for 35 neg shots, just wondering as you mentioned 35m colour neg photography a month or so back. I learnt on 35mm slide but have moved to all digital. 🇳🇿👍

  33. ELLIOT STERN says

Another great video. I have been doing inside winter photography for years and I have a pretty expanded spare room studio set up for all kinds of photography. One thing you should correct or at least add a note to is the fact that decent softboxes from Newwer, Godox, and others can be had for about 25-30 dollars. A hundred dollars could scare away a lot of folks. It is also good to stress that there are different light sources like TTL strobe or Led lights to put in the softbox to spread the light. I’m just sayin’. But over all great advice for trying something new.

  34. Mike Lunc. says

Good tips! Like getting out of my comfort zone.

Nice DIY video….and may I say Miss Lucy…your shirt ROCKS…or do you call it a blouse…do they call a woman shirt a blouse?

  36. Lloyd Story and Film says

I love this! It’s so easy to get caught up and stuck, frustrated with the weather or lack of ability to simply go somewhere awesome. We’ve been doing the same thing and are setting up a little area in our apartment that can be easily converted for product shoots. It’s tough though because … you know … apartment life with a family of four makes space limited.

  37. DGB Image & Film says

Your tutorials are SO helpful and to the point! Thanks so much!!!

  38. Randy Fraker says

Great tips Lucy! I use my Iowa winter time to take some landscape photos. (On nice days) I do spend my time working with my indoor lighting stuff, and learning from you and others on-line. Keep up the good work, and don't let that Canadian winter wear on you 🙂

  39. Lizzie Peirce says

I really liked this vid! It totally reminded of the one and only time I took my stab a product photography. I liked it then and your vid reminded me how much I would enjoy giving it ago again. Also, is there an avenue by which the photos that are taken, can be sold to the product’s company or is that pretty rare? Thanks Lucy!

Hey Beautiful Photographer 🇨🇦… I invested in a fold up LightBox to up my Product Photography game at home! My tip is I use a X-Rite Color Checker and I always use a ‘Custom-White-Balance’ based on my lighting setup! Keep #Crushingit
