In this video I do a review and showing of a mini photo studio. I really like for the price of $50. Its a great small portable studio if you need to take pictures of small items.

My background are two sided… like a velvet side and smooth side… which one you use?

Better video than the orthers I've seen which just drag on and don't show you how to use it properly.

HGi which camera do you have?

  4. Hamilton Nerd says

Would a ring light work well with this for lighting? I'm trying to find good lighting for a mini studio like this.

Objects in final photos looks so nasty, like you erased white background with eraser tool in MS paint 😀

Another way to set up the tent is with the black wall to the back of the open studio. The 3 white walls then form the left, right, and top covering. Then I place which ever background I want against the black backing and let it drape to the "floor" of the studio area. This set-up will help eliminate the shadows that can be cast by the black being a top wall, as you have in the demonstration. Not all photo subjects will need a white top, but some highly reflective objects, like coins, will benefit from a white top over a black top. Just a suggestion for those watching. Thanks.

Hi. May I know what the box's dimensions are? I'm worried that if I get a bigger one, the teeny lights won't suffice…

    Nice video!

  12. Tom Wagstaff says

Great instructions – thanks for rescuing me! (Have been trying to figure out how to set up the box for hours and feeling really stupid – of course, flip it over!)

cool. smart and handsome too hahah

  14. John T says

Very much like your get to the point demo but I have 2 suggestions: what are the dimensions (most important) and lights are normally used at the sides of the box, the whole idea being to defuse light so you don't get shadows but do get a softer light.

  15. Zach Scott says

$50.00+, Not gonna pay that, I can make one for free not including the lights.

    But thanks for the idea!

  16. Jeramie Curtice says

The box actually looks like it has diffuser sides designed so you can put the lights on the side of the box, facing inward through the walls of the box. The light should diffuse enough to eliminate shadows. Although you might have to have brighter lights than the ones provided for the right color temp.

  17. DrRupafin says

David, are you sure that understanding the purpose of a lightbox? Please google lightbox keyword, and learn how you use it to eliminate shadows! BTW, thanks for your effort review video. I am sure that it's more helpful if you change this video.

In the video, the lights are set up incorrectly…no wonder there are shadows being cast. The lights should be one on each side, with their light passing through the side translucent material on the light tent. This will kill shadows. For best results, an extra on board flash on the camera would provide more fill in light from the front.

  19. Media Unlocked says

I dont know the lux on the light but it kills most shadow and it cost around 50 dollars

  20. D. Kanoria says

how do you eliminate shadow from the object? I do not have the time to photoshop the picture. How do you take a top view? what is the lux levels of the lights? what is the cost of this kit?

  21. Media Unlocked says

try moving the lights to the side and shoot through the white wall i would have to see your set up plus I dont know any thing about your camera

  22. khanji48 says

I need to take pics of watches and i have kodak 16mp camera and softbox, could you plz tell me the settings in the camera (its not dslr though) as well as lighting softbox. I have been trying but the lighting always messes up the pics and they look very reflective in the pics. plz help????

  23. Trevor Chappell says

    Lighting it wrong

  24. Vartan297 says

Surely the best way to eliminate shadows would be to light the box from the sides/top through the white fabric therefore diffusing the light?..

  25. Media Unlocked says

@MakeupbyTrish The set up would be great for you. Do you have photoshop if so I plan on doing a tutorial on taking out shadow very basic tutorial that any one can follow. The shadows that I got from using this light box is very minimal.

  26. Patricia Solis says

I am a makeup artist and I want to start doing product reviews and swatches and am looking for something small I can use my point and shoot. I would not know how to remove shadows so is there anything else you recommend. I have seen some people have one where the light source comes from the top

  28. M4GICSL3IGHTZ says

How'd u get rid of the rebel t3i logo in te intro photo

  29. Media Unlocked says

@ChrisAdval I will add it to the list of video to shoot thanks

  30. Chris Adval says

I already know how to take away the shadows in lightroom but can you show for others and in case my lightroom "breaks" (lol) I have photoshop how would you remove the shadows without affecting the subject?

  31. Chris Adval says

you should have mentioned what kind of lighting, noticed later in the video I realized its continuous lighting not strobs which can be difficult to shoot while hand holding the camera. If you're hand holding a camera its best to use strobs not continuous in my opinion. If continuous is the only option tripod the camera for longer shutter.
