Is Portrait Professional 17 Worth it?

Its all over facebook dividing opinion – the example photos show models transformed into plastic dummies which infuriate every photogapher!

So I bought and downloaded the Studio version to see how useful it really is.

This video shows how it works, step by step – from launching in LIGHTROOM to the finished shot

Is it worth the fifty quid?

It is worth the money, only if you know what are you doing. In this video, for instance, the image looks too bright in my opinion. So, you can use PP as a layer into PS and then better use its full potential as a retouching tool.

I've been playing with the trial version. If you turn off all the presets, and only adjust what you need, it works quite well. The complaints of a wax figure/plastic skin look could easily be said about photos where too much frequency separation is used in PS. It's a complaint likely leveled at PortraitPro more often because of the price point. When tools are cheap, quick and easy they are often abused by amateurs with little understanding of them. Just look at Instagram filters. In the end it is the person doing the editing that is to blame.
