Hey there! One prop stylist trick to get painted foam core flat is to paint and X on that back side. It'll pull it straight and flat again:)

You might take a look at this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o_0qiZ4e5A) which features DIY Paint. The paint is all food safe, with no VOCs, and can be sealed with waxes that are also food safe. Some of her techniques give the same effect as the ones you use in this video, although her colors are very different. With these materials, you could actually put the food on the boards, like a sandwich being assembled or whatever. Just a thought.

Anyone else having an issue with the laminated plywood? I can't see to find 2×4. The peeps at Home Depot keep telling me there is none.
Watched this video a couple of weeks ago and now I’m here, paint and brush in hand getting ready to do my very first DIY backdrop! Thanks for creating such easy to watch content!
Here in the USA, you can find sample bottles of all kinds of paint at both Lowe's and Home Depot. Look around in the area on the back side of the area were the clerks work. The samples are usually marked for less than US $1. Over the years I must have collected 20 or 30 that are sitting stacked up in my garage for use with projects such as these. Both stores also carry a very cheap quality line of spray paint.
The stuph to use is called KOLCAUSTICO. If you want to mix color into drywall joint compound (instead of using KOLCAUSTICO), the stuph to use for color is called MIXOL. When you spray paint over the top you homogenize it; when you mix the color into the compound you get 3D depth and variations in the color.
Joanie – went out and got my boards this afternoon. Excited to get started. Before I do I wanted to touch base with you on the size. Your dimensions showed 2' x 4', correct? Is that large enough for most compositions with the 2' side? Would a larger piece, i.e., 3' x 4' be better? I like the smaller size but just wanted your opinion. Thanks

I just did my first DIY backdrop before watching your video.
I used plywood and chalked white paint from rust oleum. I’m so glad you did something like that.
I also used wood and painted it with varathane and it looked cool.
