The camcorder vs. dslr video quality conversation has a lot of opinions and many people ask should i get a dslr or camcorder? It can be hard to decide between dslr camera vs. mirrorless cameras when you consider the low light, video quality and usefulness for vlogging. DSLR for photos, Camcorder for video
I think a small-sensor camcorder makes the most sense for vlogging due to the deep depth of field. It reduces focus hunting, which is key if you're filming yourself. I'm not a vlogger or a camcorder owner, but I think I have a good idea of the tradeoffs.
Instead, I love shooting other kinds of video on my Panasonic G85. It's great for filmmaking because you can blur out the background.
Great review. Thank you so much…

hi there, i watch your YTVs which are really really super unbiasedly informative !! I am planning to make some blogging video mostly out on a sunny day. Should i go a Camcorder ( like Sony FDR-AX700 which has a 1-inch sensor ) or a mirrorless camera ( like Sony A6400 which can shoot for more than 29 mins )? Which one will produce stunning video footage? Please note that i am not trying to become a professional videographer but i want to make some blogging video with stunning image quality! Your kind advice will greatly be appreciated . Thanks heaps
Nice information 😍
I wish I have camera for vlogging😢
I have a canon vixia hf r800 and a canon 4000d which is better
Why do camcorders skimp on the quality of the video? What other reason could there BE for buying a video camera? The whole point is to record quality footage? I love everything else about it, I do not like the current obsession with blurry background at all but bokeh is kinda cool sometimes for night photos. Any budget camcorders that produce decent footage? I mostly want to film my garden and have it look nice, good colors and clarity.
I've been watching videos about how to use a DSLR and understand the basics of getting everything in focus and it's pretty cool to be able to take nice photos too. Provides the option for making a cool photo time lapse or hyperlapse and the option to get a sweet macro lens someday. That one Laowa looks sweet because I could show the garden as a whole and bring it on down to the micro wilderness in the garden without changing lenses. But $1500 for a lens is a bummer.
You can easily blur background with software editing
And for music videos what do you recommend?
I can get bokeh on a camcorder…
What is the difference between the go pro hero 2018,go pro hero session and go pro hero 7 black ?

Thanks for this one. We're about to upgrade having used our Samsung phones for a while.
If you look at the the bottom left at 1:30 you see a white thing pop for a moment
I used many types of video recording equipment: Camcorders (SD and FHD), compact cameras, DSLR (Sony Alpha 58 and Panasonic G70 (G7). And latest the BlackMagic Cinema Micro, which is in fact better than any Camcorder, and use MFT lenses. If even has Film-dynamic range and Video Dynamic range to choose from. In fact, a professional cinema camera working in ProRes at 10 or 12 Bit. Never want to go back filming with Camcorders or DSLR anymore
1) Smartphones
2) Gopro, Sony or other action cam
3) Camcorder
GREAT STUFF YOU MAKE!! You’re very entertaining.
I am so confused I want to buy DSLR camera, especially for youtube production and photography. I am a semi-professional. After watching this video i have decided to buy DSLR. But I want all in one. Like best for videography and photography. please suggest me the lens and best camera for me.
I need professional but very protable high quality camrecorder.
Which should I take?
Thank you for that I was thinking of getting one because I use my phone and iPad my YouTube getting one thank you video thank you for 🦇🧛🏻♀️💜sharing 🦇🧛🏻♀️💜💜
actually you can use a camcorder to blur the background and have a person or something in the foreground in focus.. sony fdr ax53 has an option to do that.
I have a DSLR and a camcorder but if want to plug it on TV or show it to a projector it would probably the camcorder if i want to be transferred to my phone and for online videos the Digital single reflex camera is the only option
I have been shooting video from my phone . My biggest problem is stablization and sound … So I was considering a go pro or camcorder . I don't have a bunch of change to spend so it's difficult
4:12 In fact, the thing you meant to say is "Bokeh/暈け or ボケ effect", don't know why the CC put it as "bouquet".
What camera do you use in this video? Is it on manual focus?
The vixia you show is not a Canon VIXIA HF R800. The R800 does not have a hot shoe on top and it's battery sticks out the back. Which one is it?
Thanks for the information, I'm hoping to buy a camera later this year and up my image quality. I do want to get into short film, so I think I will lean towards a DSLR.
Audio is just as important as video. How's the audio quality between the two? Good video is worthless with sub par audio.
I’ve been doing YouTube since 2010. I started recording with my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone… years later I upgraded to a dslr then mirrorless…. and now? Back to using my freakin phones!! It’s easier to set up, easier to carry around and vlog more discreetly, can charge while recording, built in audio is better on smartphones too (I have many video on dslr VS phones), you have Screen too see urself (selfie side), better in low light, faster auto focus, need I say anymore??? It’s just way more convenient, no learning curve, no extras to carry around. You will be amazed comparing many flagship smartphones camera to dslr cameras side by side.
Good stuff! Aspiring YTer here. Am I better off using a Canon 600D or my Samsung Galaxy S8? Keep up the good work.
Why can't they build a DLSR with unlimited video recording time?
I really like the aesthetic of older camcorders for some reason lol.
Budget is NOT 200$
Dont call a camcorder for 200$ a budget camera
I can get depth of field with my Canon XL1 and XL2, my Sony digital 8, even my Panisonic "The Reporter SVHS Camcorder from the late 80's.
Is there any good camcorders under $500 that lets you have good customization for the video, like white balance, focus etc.?
Which would you use for filming porn?
Camcorder or DSLR?
I've used a camcorder in the past but haven't used a DSLR.
Hello, i want to record our games from the gallery (60/65 meters away from the middle)…. so i need good effective zoom and long batter life…. and also would be great if the camera works in low lights… any camera and lens suggestion please ? will be much appreciated…. thank you…
I try recording with my Nexus 6 phone and it is even remotely chilly out side the phone claims dead battery even at 100% full. Does this occur with dslr or camcorder?
After using both camcorders and dslrs I have come to the conclusion that I prefer camcorders for my needs. I do a lot of outdoors activities (hunting fishing etc) and when it comes down to it I use a Gopros 80% of the time but when I do use the dslr it takes a long time to set up, it can be difficult to hold and the one I use (yes I know there are better autofocus systems out there) is the Niko D5200. At the end of the day, if you only plan on shooting 1080p footage considering most people don't have 4k monitors then buy a camcorder that shoots 4k which should have a great sensor for 1080p
DSLR, no camcorder
