To be fair… the "big" Rode mics are made for outdoor use, if you like to record good sound in the bush, wild life, cities etc. Your test is good, but really not fair somehow.
I do have and use the VideoMic Pro+ on my back up cam Lumix FZ1000, it's good enough, I had and still have the "dinosaur" VideoMic before which is really a good microphone…I have 9v rechargeable batteries only for it.
I've go two different brands at my main cam Pentax 645Z, The AZDEN SMX-30 mic is really amazing and the best one (for me) is the Rode NTG8…. If you do recording wild life, safari's and things like that, you can't get nearly a good sound with the VideoMicro or VideoMic Go, everything is just to far away for these "little" mic's, don't get me wrong, both are nice in rooms, buildings or a camp grounds and things like that, just not for big areas.
You should do a outdoor test somewhere in a Forrest, then you will see the real value of the VideoMic, VideoMic Pro and VideoMic Pro+.

I do recommend all 3 mic's in your video: VideoMic, VideoMic Pro and VideoMic Pro+, to all people that like to record good sound in the bush. Yes, you are right about the EVF, but you can get a little extension adapter or like I do, a small square camera light which has a socket for the mic on the top…

such a thorough review, very pleased to hear the cheapest most compact mic was still so competitive. I'm a newbie so this really helps me on decide on a mic for my T7i.

I bought my canon 80D off eBay with a shutter count of 807. It came with a 18-55 kit lens and the rode video mic pro. I got lucky and got all this stuff for $850.

  7. OMG It's Devernair says

I needed this, I just started my YouTube channel and wasn't sure what mic to buy.. it amazes me that the cheapest mic did better than the most expensive mic smh
    My mind is blown
Thank you for this, I'll order my 59 dollar mic asap🤣🤣

  12. TheHuski says

That look you get when you realise that the cheapest Rode Mic is the BEST!!!… 🙂

  13. robwas says

Wow, this test was so revealing and has steered me in a good direction. Seems moving the mic close is THE most important thing by far but honestly none of these mics sounded good to me, I feel I get better audio with the XY mic on my Zoom H5. Your video really saved me from buying something I'd be unhappy with, thanks for taking the time to make this excellent comparison.

  34. Authentic Self Guide says

Maybe its just me but they sounded the same. There isn't a noticeable difference. A viewer certainly wouldn't be able to differentiate between these.

  35. David Mendez says

can i use the video micro with a PC and a Logitech c920 for skype and other video conference apps?

  36. Max would you turn up on a job and use this Takstar mic?

  37. Bruno Marques says

Great video…I have a comica cvm and I want something to improve my audio and was thinking getting the Rodeo Video Microphone Go but I also learned from your test I should get a boom stand. A few of my videos I’m usually about 3 to 5 feet away. Maybe I should get the boom stand first and check the audio first.

  38. Friend Built says

  42. OIC- Media says

  43. Quick Lap says

After buying the $150 VideoMic I learned the Nikon in-camera mic is pretty good. The VideoMic has a slightly fuller sound, unfortunately, it also records the autofocus much better. When you buy a longer cord and a stand you can put the Rode mic at a distance from the camera to eliminate the focusing sounds. For on-camera use, these mics seem a waste of money. (I haven't tested sounds recordings at a long distance from the camera.)

  44. TopNachTV says

What mic would be best to pick up the audio of the camera holder and the person in front on the camera
