Description: Up in the Monadhliath Mountains (filming mountain hares for my previous video) I’d just stopped to have a drink of water and a snack, when I heard a very odd sound – just a few metres away there was pool which was absolutely full of frogs, mating, fighting one another for mates and making a lot of noise! I was quite surprised to find so many of them in such a small pool high on the mountain, especially as the nighttime temperatures are still falling well below freezing (surely not good for frogspawn)! There must be some advantage for them to be up there though, perhaps against predation?

When I filmed the frogs I was expecting to include it as part of a longer video, so I apologise that there is rather less b-roll and connecting footage than usual! Perhaps you prefer that style? Let me know in the comments if so!

This is the second of three videos from my Monadhliath mountains trip – watch the others here:
Part 1: Marvellous Mountain Hares –
Part 3: Fabulous Feral Goats –

I hope you enjoyed watching the frisky frogs – I was pretty surprised to find them so high up on the hill and I wonder if there is some specific advantage for them to be up high. If anybody knows more about that, please reply here and let me know ๐Ÿธ
