The day after I got this camera, I put it straight through it’s paces filming a wedding with the Panasonic s1 in place of my Canon 1DX2 for many of the shots. I’m completely impressed and overall insanely satisfied with the quality that panasonic has put into this beast. It still can’t hang with Canon’s autofocus, but the features, color, build quality, ease of use, it’s supreme. Very happy with it.
Adam thank you for posting this, honestly you are like one of three people to post anything regarding these bodies since they went firmware 1.0. It just seems like the buzz has died a bit.
what for a color profile u used? and how u graded this? looks awesome 🙂 i really like the natural look great job
Returning tomorrow because my MC-21 came in. I dont complain much but that thing is garbage. Breathing all over the place even when adapting my sigma canon mounts. As of now they have 3 lenses and a garbage adapter. The S1 and 24-105 is super fast and you get amazing shots. I just dont want to wait for lenses. Other than the 50mm their 70-200 is competitively priced. Almost kept it but I just couldn't.
Would it fit on crane 3
What a Great Capture Adam Grumbo..Panasonic S1 result is outstanding…..
which picture profile did you use?
Your video on real conditions with comments is very useful. Considering the price range of the Lumix S1 plus lenses, didn't you consider getting a cinema video camera that is really specialized on shooting high quality video?
what are you lens? Fullframe looks amazing 🙂
why on earth I use AF ?
Dude shut up and pull focus. You're just a dumb button pusher whos gonna be replaced by a robot
If you can't pull focus yourself. You don't deserve to call yourself a professional
Do you complain about that one Red Dragon or Alexa?
on the scenes you missed focus you should have touched to focus on the subject and then your good. the camera didn't know what to focus if you could see focus.
another camera for children… but uinformed adults will buy:)
Best footage I saw so far, thank you! AF is a bit disapointing but that´s only 1 argument against it. So I think I will buy it.
Nice Job.
a greeting from Hong Kong
Gonna grt a S1 too, keep going!
What lens did you used?
I'm using D5III and was thinking of EOS R but now I'm thinking of Panasonic and lens adapters for filming. Next year will be interesting for filming camera bodies. I'm so confused. Angry on Canon at the same time for 120 fps in HD and no image stabilisation.
Wow…So beautiful and imaginary wedding couple…So much romantic scenes..
I think Panasonic has knocked it out of the park with the S1. Skin tones look much better than the GH5. Lots to add for video in future firmware, but so far so good.
Great review! What were your thoughts on the battery life?
You might have mentioned this but is this shot with the kit lens?
Thanks for these examples 🙂 One workaround until the face-zooming AF matures may be to film in 6K PHOTO mode (if you need 4K) and maintain AF with a relatively static frame, then zoom-in in postproduction.
You're up front with these examples! I just got one and I'm looking forward to the autofocus improving, as well as getting 10 bit. I'm disappointed with it, coming from Sony's autofocus.
Hioe we get some actual photographers reviews soon. Seems to be all video guys. Not sure why they dont just buy video cameras.
Nice vid Adam, it looks great. I have a GH5 and was going to get the BM Pocket 4k but this camera interests me more. Whats the rolling shutter and highlight roll-off like?
Great video with useful commentary. It's a pity focus tracking is the Achilles heel of an otherwise spectacular camera. I hope Panasonic is able to fix it in a future firmware.
Great vid. Good real world examples. Coming from a GH4 I was never able to rely on a pull in-pull out tracking shots anyway. Stick to parallax movements mostly. From my tests since release on thursday, for Photo, burst mode face tracking AFC is spot on. Never miss. Video is clearly not as sharp because of the nature of DFD. I'm excited for firmware updates for this to only get better. Knowing the limitations it is easy to work with. Great commentary and good thoughts! Good stuff Adam! Would like to see a full breakdown review and your thoughts on the S1.
Keep up the good work!
So it feels good to hold but misses the focus more often than expected.
thank for the video, looks great! what lens did you use for this shoot?
