New York Now and Then: 1870s & 1880s vs 2010s

21 48

New York Now and Then shows before and after photos from New York City shot 1872-1887 compared to my photos shot 2013 and 2014. New York Now and Then includes photographs of New York from between 1872 and 1887, and then and now part is in regard to the fact that I shot the images in present day in the same locations.

This short film New York Now and Then pays tribute to a forgotten 19th century photographer. Be sure to also watch the behind the scenes video New York Now and Then: The Documentary.

"They" say one tends to always look at the past as if it were a better time in history, yet conviently dismiss the conflicts and concerns of that increment in time. Fair enough but the way the world is today its not just that people are harsher its than there arent rules/standards that should they be broken, the person who did something wrong would also be rejected completely by society as a "morally corrupt" person. Now one simply has to be poor to suffer the same treatment that had previously been reserved for those who actually did something wrong. They mistreated the poor up until the 20th century and for the next 100 years. Now we've come full circle, today, if you are poor you are looked upon as morally corrupt once again. YOur thoughts?

  13. slangen808 says

I didnt thought cities (even such a big one as New York) where so developed back then as these pictures show.

  14. Joshua Traffanstedt says

I wish someone would make a video about how daily life was in the 1870s.. not New York so much as the old west though. In it, they should explain the economy, businesses and prices of goods and housing, favorite foods, what sort of jobs there were, how men courted women, what weddings were like, child birthing, dr visits and housecalls, mail, and international and national travel.. plus whatever else they could think of.. I've yet to find a video that attempts such a feat.

  18. Mr. StarOfTruth says

just think of all the people that has lived and died , New York must be hunted..

  19. U BUY THAT DOOR says

In 100 years from now someone will be doing a comparison video (with government permission) on how things were in 2019-2020. Viewers will request permission to leave a comment about the green haired hipster and the lady walking and texting.
