This tradition began in 1993 when APEC Secretariat was established in Singapore.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the APEC Summit since it began as an informal dialogue group in 1989. Philippines is one of founding member together with Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States. Since then, member economies has increased to 21 with the addition of China, Hong Kong, China and Chinese Taipei, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Peru, Russia and Viet Nam.
