We were lucky enough to get our hands on a Nikon Z6 a week early with the latest firmware that brings EYE-AF. As you know, I love taking the cameras into Real World situations to test them out. That’s exactly what we did this time around with our model.

Not only did I do regular hand held shooting with the Nikon Z6. But I also broke out the Sony a7 III and Canon EOS R, which both have eye-af. On top of the hand held shooting, we set up all three cameras with their respective 70-200 2.8’s and Atomos recorders. The Atomos’ allow us to record our EVF and share with you a first person look inside the camera.

So what do you think, did Nikon do a good job on the first go around?

  2. Markus Imhof says

Yes, my Z6 focuses eyebrows after the update and focuses better in low light, that's it.
Great video Jared Polin! No one does it better!

    I need sub Thai pls

  4. leo pard 2 says

I dont know what you are talking about but these eye af problems with the Z6 are new for me , i never had your strange eye lash problem , the focus was always bang on in every Situation… idk what you are doing but clearly youre doing something wrong

  5. אבי רוקח says

    Canon chasing peleton…

  7. Jason Wong says

Canon & Nikon: Look at our new cameras!
Sony: Ima bout to end these men's whole careers.

  8. Daniel Mrw says

Of course there are menu options in the Nikon Z6 that allow you to adjust how fast or slow it focuses on something that gets in the way and how sensitive you want it.

  9. Rizwan Ali says

    Great Video!

    But at 24:24

I would argue that still I would need to put single point focus or similar mode…. even for same example you quoted, would'nt camera pick eye of some other person that you might not wish to focus on?

And in such situations you change the frame, not focus point, so at least you get the shot

  10. C. says

17:10 Have you thought about adjusting the A3 setting (focus tracking with lock on)? Setting it to quick may give better results when dipping in & out of the frame.

  11. Grigor Kyokuto says

you should have an asian to test it out

  14. Marves Rivas says

    How about Fuji? 😁

  15. AM Photography says

On eos R the automatic af point selection speed is set to 0 at default. Set it to 2 and the boxes move faster.

  16. João Matos says

Amazing see how much better Sony is on they’re auto focus and eye af and steel be the cheaper

  17. Khem Iglesis Barrull says

    4:51 the voice crack😬😂

  18. dolphite gamemaster says

Say what you will about the Sony but the most important thing about photography is time. The sunset will not wait for you, the bride can be mean if you waste her time on some blurry pictures, them sport players will not wait for you to catch a good focus, and that's where Sony comes in.

  19. Tarot Consejos says

Sony never was a photography oriented brand THAT'S WHY despite it's innovations can't match photographer's real needs. Nikon has came up with a selector for which eye you want to work with, a bigger lens mound (that Sony will have to copy in the near future haha) etc. SONY is for TVs and radios 😀

  20. sey 30 Spyderco says

    SONY GOD FOREVER ✌️#1 👑

  21. Mz Feng says

Sony is so much better than the other two. I want to switch to Sony but I’m gonna miss my army of 1.8’s

  22. Andriel's Angles says

The Z6 seems like a pretty good camera for photos, but would you recommend it for vlogging as well? I'm considering getting a Z6 in the near future. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! 🙂

  23. David kiania says

Very good work Jared, comprehensive, very detailed, and objective love your work. #FeartheFro 🙂

  24. wingbert says

Upgrading Sony firmware is fine as long as you connect it to a real computer

  25. Zbriu says

I thought you were gonna die at 4:54 but i'm glad you recovered 😛

  26. Frank Torres says

Hopefully down the road this test will be re-implemented with native Mirrorless lenses. Sony is the only one that had a native lands the other ones had adapters. I wonder what the canon 28-70 F2 would perform like. Great video anyways

  27. Jakiy SW says

Am I the one who still using manual focusing?

  28. lordgregz says

    Sony is the best… A7RII, A7RIII and A7III user here…

  29. dang huy says
