My name is Ted Forbes and I make videos about photography. I’ve been making photographs most of my life and I have a tremendously deep passion for photography that I want to share with you on YouTube.

The Art of Photography is my channel and I produce photography videos to provide a 360 degree look into the world of making images. We all want to get better so lets do this together!

I make videos covering famous photographers, photography techniques, composition, the history of photography, philosophy and much more.

I also have a strong community of photographers who watch the show and we frequently do social media challenges for photographers to submit their own work. I feature the best and most interesting on the show when we do these so come check it out and get involved!

I have hesitated posting photos on social media because someone warned me they can be stolen … Should I copyright or watermark them before posting?

Hey guys! Does it help if I post my picture on all of those social networks or should instagram be enough?

  24. nickademuss42 says

Pro tip: wile saving up for that new camera, don't stop taking pictures, buy a cheap used camera, even an old D70 can churn out great photo's. Or if your really want great images on the cheap, shoot film. Any time clicking the shutter is good time.

  25. Lonnie Paulson says

Can I submit older work that I had done in the past?

  30. Pau Mej says

Ted I absolutely love photo assignments! I've only submitted two so far… I just need a lot of time to think about my submissions but I just submitted a photo for the high angle photo assignment #4 but it's also a long exposure so…my question is, can I submit one photo for two assignments or should I choose one only?

  31. Stephen Bridgett says

Hi Ted, thanks ever so much for all you do, a constant inspiration to me. An off topic question, perhaps you have covered this elsewhere but I think I have seen every one of your videos; would you make any recommendations when wanting to produce a photo book? There are so many companies doing it now and it is hard to narrow the field. I'd like to have some of my work in print but with limited wall space, the cost of framing and no one beating down my door to buy my work, books seems like the way to go. Thanks again, regards, Stephen

  32. Daniel Duarte says

Looking forward to participating now that I'm all done with school and am back to the real world. Thanks, Ted!

  33. kingberzerk says

Thank you very much! Decided to start participating and couldn't find the format specs. I can see clearly now, thank you very much.

  34. Erik Lilja says

Mr Forbes, I sense a frustration in your video concerning the implied expectations on what this activity really is. First of all, you have been very clear about the purpose, stick with it, it's working great. You don't do this for a living, still the Photoassignments idea is perfect for at least myself – easy to participate, no obligations, free, inspires productivity, fun. I myself have shifted focus from thinking about cameras to thinking about images – content, light, composition… I just needed a subject and by the assignments that's what I get. Great project, keep at it, and all the best!

  35. Tony Su says

Where are the themes for each week published? I can never find out what the themes are

  36. Anthony Munyi says

Ted, you're absolutely right. These challenges have expanded my creativity in many ways and we shouldn't let the fact of not making it to the final cut get to us. What really matters isn't validation: it's improvement and mastery. I hope to shift in this thinking

Somebody on another group also suggested a photo blog just for submitted work, so that we can have galleries of each photo assignment. Is that a possibility?

  37. davin edridge says

Thanks very much for this video, it certainly clears the air on photo assignments! I can see clearly now… Is that my photo over there? haha

  38. Stephen Morgan says

Is there a list of titles of past assignments?

  39. Simon Leon says

awesome intro, that was sooooo good.

  40. Tuttoinutile sempre says

great video ted , I would really love to participate and I eventually will, but I'm one of those film shooter which really takes a lot of time when shooting and always arrives late at photo assignments parties.I thought as well to start shooting intant film for photo assignments .However the problem I have with it is really that all the instant cameras that are around right now don't really appeal to me, I find the mini way too small and the wide cameras too clunky to bring with me all the time ,and Impossible film, while beatiful and of a perfect size ,is really too expensive too shoot on regularly .That's why I'm really looking forward to the new istax square format hoping that eventually some manifacturer would make a camera that suits me , but as for now I guess I'll just have to wait.Still great job and keep up the awesome work.
