A photo taken by a high school student in China is making the rounds on the internet.
Featuring a bowl of rice, there is a little something extra in the middle of the dish. It appears to be a fully cooked mouse or rat head, protruding from the breakfast meal. According to reports, the teenager’s school cafeteria was responsible for serving the rodent. While the picture is not verified, it looks legitimate.
In another recent story from China, the Ministry of Public Security recently announced that traders in the Eastern part of the country were arrested for selling counterfeit lamb. According to the New York Times, over 60 people were detained for “buying fox, mink and rat and other meat products that had not undergone inspection.”
Such food safety related concerns are not just limited to China. Earlier this year, horse and pig DNA was found in hamburgers that were being sold in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
