Where do focus points fit Into these scenarios? If that makes any sense;) I guess what I’m wondering is what focus point selection do you use for large groups vs small groups?

They used to call the big Metz flash the F11 strobe. Meaning it had enough power to light a wedding party at an alter at F11 to have enough depth for everybody to fall into the dept of field. At the time most photographers were using VPS 160 and overexposing it and using it at ISO 100 or even 80 so it had to have a lot of flash power.

Eric, what you said about cellphone photos is so true. I've had to wait five minutes trying to get a huge group set up because people were determined to take their own photos. Useful video!

great video! I have Canon mark 3 D5 with 50mm E lens. I have a hard time with sharpness on all the people in group shot. One person will be sharp and the rest a bit soft. HELP!

Really good advice. Thanks for the info. I've done group shots of the family and they always crowd together and complain about how long i take to get the picture. It's usually over in 5 minutes. I feel like it's a race to the finish line. But, I get the shot. My problem is the guys in the rea line up are standing behing someones head and get half their face blocked. i like the step stool idea and will try that to overcome the problem. I've thought of placing something in front of the group and asking if you can see this object you're good if not move so you can see the object. I'm thinking of a rock or something.

I know your preference is soft boxes, but if you used umbrellas would you use shoot through or bounce?

Ok so I do photography as a little side job and I just was booked for a 50th anniversary in America. The family wants a large group shot of at most 80 people. Now the group shots of 20 I have taken I use my Canon rebel t5 18-55mm no problem. What is your sugguestion for using the camera I have for a group of 80?
