I’m always asked by my friends, “Which camera should I buy?”

Well that depends what you want to use it for! Travel? Weddings? Everyday stuff?

Watch my video as I very briefly discuss which cameras I use:
Canon 1DX
Canon 5D3
Canon 5D4
Nikon D750
Nikon DF
Sony A7rii
Sony A7s
Fujifilm X-Pro2
Fujifilm X100T
Sony A6300
Sony A6000
Sony RX100

This is NOT an in-depth review of these cameras.

Also what’s stated here is just my own personal opinion =)

You didn't mention Image Stabilization, articulating screens and mic ports which are important and I read reviews on Sony cameras that suggest they have a quality control isdue and there are so many lemons out there that become pape weights for people. Scary to buy a camera my last was a $500 canon that stopped working quickly and was useless. Thank you.

Can I get your advice ? Now I own a Canon 70D + 18-55 STM + 50 f1.8 STM. Should I change from that set to Fuji XT1 and its kit lens ? I go for portrait, a little bit sport and I go on a way to become a professional.

Hey there! I have a question for you: so I’m developing my own photography business. I don’t have a specific targeted type of session I want to work with, I want to do everything honestly! (Sounds bad now, I’m sure eventually I’ll have a focus point lol but for now I’m up for it all) I’ve been talking with a few friends here & there about the ultimate camera to get now. Currently I own a Nikon D3200 & Sony a5000 (which are both really old for me now since I’ve had these for a few years & they’re kinda worn out), & I’m wanting to get a new camera. I’m deciding between Cannon, Sony, and now Fujifilm. But I am curious.. would fujifilm be a good camera even for a business? I know cannon knows how to bring out the best skin pigmentation, & Sony is just so clear & crisp. But would Fuji be a balance of those things? Or should I stick with looking into Sony/cannon?

Funny thing is, most image quality and dynamic range tests have shown that Canon and Nikon are the worst cameras. Don't misunderstand me, they are still great, but Fuji, Pentax, Leica, Olympus have always shown better results. While Full Frame DSLRs are great for stills, they are disappointing when it comes to video. Sony is the best Full Frame camera you can find that is impeccable for both video and still photography, but anyone would recommend a smaller sensor if you are a film maker or videographer. The Panasonic GH5 and GH5S are the best, while cheapest cameras today that can achieve professional results that can be compared to RED and ARRI. I know you'll start complaining about Panasonic's autofocus, but consider that no serious film maker uses autofocus for his footage. Autofocus is great for vlogs and one-man-crew video production, but use manual focus if you are shooting a film, commercial, music video or marriage/public event.

EDIT: Just to confirm my knowledge and experience on the subject; I have a Canon 5D Mark III and I am incredibly disappointed by it's video quality and dynamic range. You can shoot better footage with a modern smartphone (2017-2018) than the 5D Mark III. I'm trying to sell it to buy the GH5 or GH5S; after trying it for a few days, I just could not return to that horrible 1080p video Canon is known for. It's great for stills, but I'd be ashamed to buy a 5D for video purposes…I actually am ashamed that bought it, but I didn't know much about cameras back then and this photographer I knew guaranteed me there was no better (while cheaper) camera to capture professional quality video. I got conned since the photographer was a close friend of the seller. He probably took a cut of the money I paid for convincing me to buy the camera…

So I am looking for a camera, either mirrorless or dslr. I want one that shoots video in 4k (preferably) or at least 1080p 60fps and takes good photos. Looking to be in the $250-350 (USD) range. What is your recommendation(s)?

  40. Ally says

I personally always liked the newest Nikons, they have great colours and speed. It just really works well for my portfolio. I get that it has a lot of features most people won't use but if you are getting serious it is absolutely one to consider 😉

I really appreciate the fact that you don’t edit your videos like every other tech channel. I can’t stand all the jump cuts and scripted gibberish I see when I try and research new equipment. Just wanted to let you know that. Thank you

  46. PREETHAM RAI says

Thanks for the comparison, I would like to know which camera you suggest among Fuji X-T20, M-50 & Lumix-G80/85. I stay in a city and I go Trekking/hiking quite often. As my need is both in city surrounding (to say Dubai, which has beaches, Buildings and park's) and while going on Trekking (say on a nature photography-Hills, mountains and Falls). Please suggest me the one if you know better what is best for my need. If you have any other option please do let me know. Thanks In Advance
