To be fair… the "big" Rode mics are made for outdoor use, if you like to record good sound in the bush, wild life, cities etc. Your test is good, but really not fair somehow.
I do have and use the VideoMic Pro+ on my back up cam Lumix FZ1000, it's good enough, I had and still have the "dinosaur" VideoMic before which is really a good microphone…I have 9v rechargeable batteries only for it.
I've go two different brands at my main cam Pentax 645Z, The AZDEN SMX-30 mic is really amazing and the best one (for me) is the Rode NTG8…. If you do recording wild life, safari's and things like that, you can't get nearly a good sound with the VideoMicro or VideoMic Go, everything is just to far away for these "little" mic's, don't get me wrong, both are nice in rooms, buildings or a camp grounds and things like that, just not for big areas.
You should do a outdoor test somewhere in a Forrest, then you will see the real value of the VideoMic, VideoMic Pro and VideoMic Pro+.
I do recommend all 3 mic's in your video: VideoMic, VideoMic Pro and VideoMic Pro+, to all people that like to record good sound in the bush. Yes, you are right about the EVF, but you can get a little extension adapter or like I do, a small square camera light which has a socket for the mic on the top…
such a thorough review, very pleased to hear the cheapest most compact mic was still so competitive. I'm a newbie so this really helps me on decide on a mic for my T7i.
RODE mics can suck my arse man, i just compared them to mics from china i paid $10 bucks for dude! https://www.wish.com/feed/tabbed_feed_latest/product/5ace5c2a918dae67caed74de?&source=tabbed_feed_latest they are the same or better….hahahahahah
Great Video….thanks.
I bought my canon 80D off eBay with a shutter count of 807. It came with a 18-55 kit lens and the rode video mic pro. I got lucky and got all this stuff for $850.
I needed this, I just started my YouTube channel and wasn't sure what mic to buy.. it amazes me that the cheapest mic did better than the most expensive mic smh
My mind is blown
Thank you for this, I'll order my 59 dollar mic asap🤣🤣
Thanks for this review. You just saved me over $200!!! 🙌🙌
Thank you for the great comparison
They sound the same lol
This is one of the few times when lack of budget is an advantage lol, thanks for the review.
That look you get when you realise that the cheapest Rode Mic is the BEST!!!… 🙂
Wow, this test was so revealing and has steered me in a good direction. Seems moving the mic close is THE most important thing by far but honestly none of these mics sounded good to me, I feel I get better audio with the XY mic on my Zoom H5. Your video really saved me from buying something I'd be unhappy with, thanks for taking the time to make this excellent comparison.
Max been smoochin’ with some dirty girls
Thanks. Jesus bless
Great video – thanks – I have been using the micro for a long time and love it
big big big big big big shout out for comparing them with the unified VOLUME/GAIN! because if something is louder we think that its better when actually it is not. so thanks for that man!
is this rode mic pro a good deal?!? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/372619636692?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
Hi, Max. Before I make the purchase, I have a question Whether it can be used as voice input on my mac as well when editting the video. Thanks,
What audio interface are you using?
I am lost a bit. Which shotgun is best for Canon M50? From first to last choice? Thanks in advance.
Did anyone ever used a Alctron VM-5? What do you think about this mic?
Can you use the RØDE VideoMicro as a boom microphone?
Can I suggest you leave 3-4 secs of silence in each example so we can hear the background noise levels and artefacts you refer to?
12:47
Just don't touch that mic to your lip…
For me the best is the Takstar he is using…
hard to watch, square space shill…
hard to watch, awful!
Great information
I´m a filmamaker and I don´t understand anything about sound recording, any recomendations where to start learning about all that db´s technicall stuff you where talking about? much apreciated thanks!
why is my videomic go hissing af?
Røde ikkje Rode. Red=Røde
To me all of them sounded the same except the Pro Plus sounded a little muffled
Maybe its just me but they sounded the same. There isn't a noticeable difference. A viewer certainly wouldn't be able to differentiate between these.
can i use the video micro with a PC and a Logitech c920 for skype and other video conference apps?
Max would you turn up on a job and use this Takstar mic?
Great video…I have a comica cvm and I want something to improve my audio and was thinking getting the Rodeo Video Microphone Go but I also learned from your test I should get a boom stand. A few of my videos I’m usually about 3 to 5 feet away. Maybe I should get the boom stand first and check the audio first.
RØDE video mic go sucks. Feedback like crazy, Random clicks
Ok sir
I have the video mic Pro with the updated suspension. Wondering if I should use the low-pass filter or not.
As a new comer to video. I really appreciate the in depth explanation.
greet video
After buying the $150 VideoMic I learned the Nikon in-camera mic is pretty good. The VideoMic has a slightly fuller sound, unfortunately, it also records the autofocus much better. When you buy a longer cord and a stand you can put the Rode mic at a distance from the camera to eliminate the focusing sounds. For on-camera use, these mics seem a waste of money. (I haven't tested sounds recordings at a long distance from the camera.)
What mic would be best to pick up the audio of the camera holder and the person in front on the camera
