— Frequently Asked Questions —
What do you do for a living?
– I am a commercial timelapse photographer. This means people or brands hire me to produce timelapse or hyperlapse footage. My clients include Microsoft, Tourism Dubai, Canon Australia etc.
What’s with the vlogs?
– I was inspired to start vlogging by the vlogging greats such as Casey, Ben, Louis etc. I figured it’s a fun challenge and a great way to grow my channel. I love seeing the behind the scenes of the industry and I hope you enjoy mine!
Where do you live and where are you from?
– I live in Sydney, Australia. I moved here from Antwerp, Belgium in 2013 in the pursuit of love and adventure! Ja, ik spreek nederlands.
What gear do you use?
– I use a lot of Canon cameras, mainly the 1DXII and 5D3 (sometimes 5DSR) with a ton of lenses. Check out my gear playlist for more (
Are you sponsored by Canon?
– Nope. I just have a great relationship with them and they get me to do the occasional timelapse video for them.

Thank you Matthew. I'm a full time architecture and real estate photographer when I have time I shoot for my online gallery and image licensing. My oldest son who is 18 has recently taken up photography and I'm efforting bringing him along to work full time as a photographer. Regarding licensing, any particular niche you find strong for residual and consistent income?

Great video, and spot on what the titles says. Not a lot of bullshit talk as everybody else on youtube 👍 Would you care to share an example of what you would charge lets say a customer with a spesific order? How many seconds of video, time on location, how much of the produced material the customer ends up using, I suppose all this influence?

Awesome work mate ! I’ll be back in Sydney for a few months this year , are you running any timelapse /hyperlapse workshops ?

  6. Rombout Versluijs says

The ratio 25/75 is quite high, you have a big cut but you also need to buy all the expensive gear and such. Though using an agent give you probably higher numbers. But still they seem to get quite a big cut. But one question how did you started, you most have been doing other work prior to this, i mean all that gear doesnt drop into you lap you need for timelapses

  7. The Flute Channel says

Thanks for this video….and so many others. You inspired me about a year ago. Bought my first camera in July 7D II, and second in September '16. Now a 5DSR because of you so I think they (canon) pay you already. Several lenses, too much other gear, but I love it! Love Astro the most. I'm 25 years older than you but learning fast! Sold 10 images last week

  27. Tom in the Philippines says

Bedankt om iets meer 'inside information' te delen. Veel hangt waarschijnlijk ook af van waar je dit doet. Hier in the Philippines, where the agent find you haha, zal dat 'iets' anders/stroever/moeilijker verlopen om te netwerken. Vermoedelijk zou ik dan contacten moeten leggen in andere landen?

  28. Stephen Lloyd says

Great video, very informative. How did you get the start though? Did you hit the pavement looking for clients, or did someone approach you and it grew organically?

  29. Framed by Thomas says

How did you find your agent? Did they contact you, or did you specifically go for an agent?
