I hope you can talk to Sony and suggest to get a 200-400mm F4 on the market, at Nikon price. (The Canon price is rediculous) Thank you!

It's interesting to see this video after 2 years. Sony use its A9, A7riii and the market killer A7iii tells the world, mirrorless is the future. And what amuse me it, Canon can't even fight back a bit.

Lots of options indeed. Sony aquiring Minolta and using their a-mount. I wonder why they changed that mount to emount instead of keeping it. Now their amounts are ultracheap, the converter itself beeing way more expensive with allot of the AF lenses. I'm just an enthusiast, Even a couple of hundred dollars is a big investment on a lens. At least to me, but then again, I got used to MF lenses from the 70's adapted to Sony. It just takes skill and work and I'm getting used to it after months of practice. If you catch an action shot, to get a clear shot takes forethought and pre-planning, your own reaction speed and yes, quite a bit of luck, modern AF is awesome but it's point, click and forget in comparisson, if you have a runner running towards you, you start with infinity, then you ajust the mm as the runner gets close to you, so now your calculating focus range and making the fine adjustments on top of aperatures and ISO's. So yes, it's doable with MF, just not easy. But heck, a 20.00 lens at 1.4 zoomed or prime from a pentax k series or a Minolta can do close to the same job. Then again, I don't own any Gmaster lenses.

Sony missed out on a lot of sales due to Sigmas excellent line of cheaper lens for the Sony e mount. Glad to see them coming out with more choices in consumer gear .

Could it not also be said that by adding "affordable" lenses into the Sony lineup, that they will ultimately sell more camera bodies. Therefore, ie. the professional or hobbyist with even a modicum of curiosity towards a new format, or the absolute beginner looking to purchase his/her first "real" camera while standing at the camera sales counter would invariably ask the salesperson: "what lenses are available and what do they cost"?. Uh Oh, the salespersons answer just killed the MIRRORLESS sale. Another DSLR victory.

So, being that the price-point between the two formats is relatively equal, we can be certain that the above scenario will be short lived, as the MIRRORLESS manufacturers continue to design and introduce affordable glass to a new and exciting format for photographers of all levels.

My biggest challenge right now is whether or not I get the SEL50F18 (50mm f1.8) or the SEL50F18F (50mm f1.8 full frame) for my A6000.

I do have a view to some day going into the full frame (when I can afford to) and so the full frame version would be good for this long term affect. However, I have seen consistent complaints about its slow and loud auto-focusing making it very hard to use on the fly, in low light and for recording video without an external microphone.

In UAE there is just a JUMBO store to buy sony accessories and they rip you off bigtime . The prices online for the Gmaster lense when you compare the same on line the difference is huge.

  15. Max Kramer says

Don't be so naive. Why are you saying that with all these 50 mm Sony answers some prayers? 50 mm lenses are cheaper because it's easier and cheaper in development. The optic shema is simple.

Yep i'm not a full time photographer, and I cannot convince my wife to let me drop that kind of money on good lenses.

I got to shoot with an a7R2 this weekend and left my canon 50D in my bag, and I'm seriously right on the edge of wanting to switch over.

We all know oss increases the weight and size of the lens. Not sure why sony have oss in their lenses when they have ibis in almost all cameras. I dont understand the logic. All new sony lenses are bulky because of this. Mirrorless losing its main advantage.
I think sony should make non oss irrespective of any lens which reduce size weight and also cost.

Content trumps lenses when it comes to fine lines such as 1.8 nifty to a zeiss. Top lenses are nice but not critical. If you cant afford a zeiss, focus on the quality of your subject. No 1 bad habit is to focus on gear than subject. technique etc..

  25. sean mckee says

I wish sony would come out with an affordable mid range zoom lens, a 24-70mm 2.8 for $700 price range. Why they dont do it I dont know.
