About a year ago I asked myself the questions; “If I were to die soon, what would have been the greatest photography course I could ever make to leave behind for generations to come & why would it be “great”?”

I came to the conclusion, that it would be highly impactful to create a photography course that anyone in the world could watch and learn the basics of photography in under an hour.

The tricky part, was getting around the language barriers, but I realized that if the lessons were physics & demonstration based, it might be possible. Numbers & the metric system are almost universal, so I allowed myself that exception, as well as using sounds, and other universal symbols.

When I taught in college, something I learned was that students retained information far better, when there was an aspect of self-discovery. I wanted this self-discovery aspect in each lesson.

One year later, this is my very best attempt to create a Universal Photography Course. Whether it is the World’s Greatest Photography Course or not remains to be seen, but in this format, I believe I have come very close, if not succeeded. I have no problems updating it either, so it will get better. If you think I did well, I would love a thumbs up!

Wherever you may be, whatever language you may speak. It is my true privilege and honor to be your mentor. I don’t have any plans on dying anytime soon, so until then….

Enjoy!

🙂

Well done, however, near the end when you were focusing on the eyes, lock and recomposed, you focused on the far eye(camera left) blond hair, perhaps your wife, aside from that, a new and refreshing concept. Understood every bit.

I watched it today again, but now with my 8 years old son. He was very interested and curious and finally, he could see some things I tried to explain him in the past just with words. We paused the video again and again and he tried out many things in parallel with his camera. It was a great fun and I am sure, it pushed again his understanding for the physics of photography, the technique and the very basics of composition. That’s a lot 🙂 Many thanks again for this valuable teaching video!

Brilliant Michael !! Very humane ….If you cover most of what you think is important in photography you will be remembered….Being language independent is a great idea . But maybe your heading could tell us what issue you r trying to crack …..What the desired end result is after watching !!
    My two cents !!
