Auntie Sorelle is here to save the day…yes…again. Today we’re talking about the endless number of ways of making money online. It really is endless! If you have a reasonably photography level, you CAN be making money from this craft!

You need to be strategic and choose a great niche that you love and enjoy and then build a beautiful strategy around this. You’ll do great, I promise.

Don’t sit on these ideas, don’t be a scared photographer. You just have to dive in and give it a go. Start with smaller jobs that don’t scare you TOO much and the stakes aren’t too high such as wedding photography – because if you stuff that up, yeah…that’s bad news.

Start with the smaller jobs, charging less until you feel you’re ready to step up your game and charge more. It’s all a learning process but don’t sit on your hands forever. Progress is better than perfection.

If anyone feels like time stamping the points, go for it…I will appreciate that too.

Hope you enjoyed the video and it was helpful! Don’t forget to like and subscribe and let me know which idea was your favourite!

Unfortunately, your skill doesn’t really help you get work. 90% of it is marketing and your popularity.

Sorelle, can you offer any advice for how to reach out to some of these people? I have thought of a lot of these too, but I have a lot of trouble reaching out! I know being more personal might work better than instagram messaging them…but I could totally use more tips. Thanks for all you do!!!

IF YOU LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN like mine where there’s not really anywhere to learn to improve firsthand (ie photography shop or any businesses that deal with photography), buy a local newspaper and look at who’s getting credited for the photos. My town doesn’t even have a newspaper but the closest one does. My teacher gave some pics I took at homecoming to the editor of the paper and they were the only pictures not taken by the editor herself (who also wrote most of the articles). If you’re town is pretty small, odds are you’d be able to get a job/volunteer to take pictures for the newspaper and they’d actually appreciate it. And if you’re not getting paid, there’s not really any pressure to take amazing shots. It’s a great way to build connections, a reputation, skills, and a portfolio. Plus when you’re able to get a job you have a perfect reference.

I've never found a way to earn money from my photography, I'm 35 now, still trying, but none of the niches worked. I'm a macro floral photographer (and as is said many-a-times "ain't nobody wanna see another flower picture") — so I keep trying to inform my dream and shape it into something that might earn money.

I love plants, reptiles, encouraging people, and my bright floral photography. Trying to piece those things together in a profitable way has taken 12+ years of failed attempts… but I'm still going!

You don't know how happy I was when I saw your ad on insta about the 2 free months of skillshare. I remember last time you did it and I was having other responsibilities I promised myself I would take that offer the next time I'd see it. Fast forward, I probably spent the first 2 days 12 hours inhaling photography courses.
My dream I work towards is to become a professional fashion photographer. Although currently I'm getting offers to shoot other niches, weddings and couples 😀
I try to stay open minded and take every experience as an addition to my knowledge. Education as you've said.
Just wanted to say thank you for all your great tips 🙂

Finally a longer list 🙂 I was missing one nice that is still booming, Tinder Headshots! Seen a video of a guy doing that on F-stoppers and it looked like so much fun. Do you have any experience using Airbnb website to offer your photography services as an experience?(just noticed a photographer in my area doing portraits in a populair visitor area and based on the amount of reviews it seems like a daily gig)

I do Portrait Photography which is anything from Graduation photos, Senior photos, Dance photography, Headshots, Body Shots, Composites, and of course Newborn, Kids, Family, Engagement, you name it! My camera is an old Sony A58 and I use a 50mm lens and Photoshop CC 2015, after breaking my lens and having to use my kit lens, I realized its not the gear that makes the Photographer, its the Eye 😉

  36. paul campagna says

I like your enthusiasm. Lots of opportunities if you have the desire and skills. I also tried Skillshare and honestly, didn't like it at all. I know they sponsor this video and such, but they need to do some more work, even with the cheaper price.
