Vla’s new blog:

My first professional job as a full time photographer was actually as a food photographer. In this video I will give you some tips to improve your own food photography without having to buy fancy lights or camera gear. You’ll also meet my friend Vla who is a health and fitness guru and he’ll be doing the cooking and helping us with the styling. I hope this helps you get better shots of your dishes.

Hi, what do you use under the cake board? You have a white one and a black one, looks like a table top or worktop

    Hi Sean,
Your work is amazing. Recently upgraded my camera o a full frame mirrorless camera. Canon EOS R I have a kit lens with it , a 24-105 mm focal length is F4. Would I be able to do for starters food photography with this lens?

Do you still think that 50mm on a crop sensor gives the same compression as 85mm on Full frame, because as far as I understand compression is because of lens design rather than sensor size.

Liked and subbed. I found the opening rather boring but I'm so glad I stuck with it. The content and results are amazing and my only wish is that your friend, Vla, included more of his stylistic inspirations in his descriptions to help out photographers who don't have their own stylists. Gotta check out his blog now so thanks for posting a link to it.

Focus on the cake was on the lavender, not on the cake itself? :O

I stopped doing food photography because I have no time. I would say 90% is food styling and set up, 10% is photography, anybody can learn food photography in 5 minutes.

You have to be the clear and straight forward photography guru i have ever heard. You say everything that we need to hear, nothing, ambiguous or assuming that we know already. well done you! onwards……..

When he said "dark food photography is really popular right now" it sounded like dogfood photography to me xD I just thought: what?! Dogfood photography, really? Trends these days… *:-D

I love to cook and really loving photography… unsure why I didn't think to merge those interests. Will now try out food photography!

I know this is not a recent video, but it looks like a fun collaboration. I also have to agree with you on the apsc sensor canon body and the nifty fifty. It's a fantastic combanation that gives you a versital 80 mm or so focal length. I am currently in this configuration. Best of all when I go full frame I have a 50mm f1.8. Another great vid!
