Bride of Christ – Taking Vows

33 166

In many religious houses the concept of espousing yourself to Christ has been replaced with a secular concept of social commitment to the Church. Here, in the Tridentine community, nothing replaces the eternal nuptials and spiritual relationship of a young girl who vows herself to Christ as His bride when she becomes a religious Sister.

On September 8th, 2014, Sister Mary Imelda, novice, the former Mary-Kate Duffy of Shirley Massachusetts, made her first vows to Our Lord, Jesus Christ, as His bride. The touching ceremony began when she walked down the aisle in her bridal gown along side her father, followed by her flower girls, her two younger twin sisters.

A sung Mass was celebrated by Father Neil Roy and assisted by many altar servers, including Sister Mary Imelda’s brother. At the Offertory, Sister profoundly bowed then publicly renounced the world and professed her vows, signing them on the altar. She was then blessed and given the habit and black veil of the professed members of the order, and walked out of the chapel as the choir of Brothers and Sisters chanted traditional hymns.

Moments lapse and Sister returned, in her black habit, symbolizing her death to this world that she may live now, anticipating the eternal nuptials yet to come. Mass then continued bringing Christ present on the altar and in Communion. When Mass ended the attendees celebrated the wonderful event with cake. A private reception followed later that afternoon.

What a glorious way to celebrate the birthday of the Mother of God! May she always guide and protect our new MICM Sister as she continues her journey toward the eternal nuptials! Veni Sponsa Christi!

Being a bride of Christ is not to mean you are getting married like in the marriage of this world… this seems like ppl are still trying to satisfy their love for the activities of this world… this is really disturbing… ppl r doing things in their own interest and understanding which is why we have thousands of denominations…

Hey brothers and sisters Do you forget that nuns are not Only His Bride? Catholic Cathecism Teach us The Church Is the bride so who are the Church? We Us off course. Jesus would never marry only according to gender which is Nun only Girls only, woman only. Its never been like that. Its never be a gender. All our souls are married to him Whether were married physically or a nun were all his spiritual bride The Church is the Bride of Christ He love us all, he died and resurrected for us all so whats the use of his dying if we are not all his bride spiritually? 796 The unity of Christ and the Church, head and members of one Body, also implies the distinction of the two within a personal relationship. This aspect is often expressed by the image of bridegroom and bride. The theme of Christ as Bridegroom of the Church was prepared for by the prophets and announced by John the Baptist.234 The Lord referred to himself as the "bridegroom."235 The Apostle speaks of the whole Church and of each of the faithful, members of his Body, as a bride "betrothed" to Christ the Lord so as to become but one spirit with him.236 The Church is the spotless bride of the spotless Lamb.237 "Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her."238 He has joined her with himself in an everlasting covenant and never stops caring for her as for his own body:239

This is the whole Christ, head and body, one formed from many . . . whether the head or members speak, it is Christ who speaks. He speaks in his role as the head (ex persona capitis) and in his role as body (ex persona corporis). What does this mean? "The two will become one flesh. This is a great mystery, and I am applying it to Christ and the Church."240 And the Lord himself says in the Gospel: "So they are no longer two, but one flesh."241 They are, in fact, two different persons, yet they are one in the conjugal union, . . . as head, he calls himself the bridegroom, as body, he calls himself "bride."242

  27. J R says

So if nuns are the brides of Christ, what would that make the monks?

  28. Brittany Sellars says

This is not true gospel one of their pastor is a false prophet

  29. Iz Wilson says

This is very strange to me … the whole concept of a "bride" is very.earthly and sexual … one has to remember the idea of virgin maidens married to a god is found in other religions so as usual Catholics borrowed .. they borrowed the Torah and changed The 10 Commandments and of course borrowed Yeshua ..

  30. David McCourt says

  31. Cecy Mar says

Que belleza!! Me hace un nudo en la garganta de la emoción!.

  32. Rachel Whiteley says

while I could never be a nun total respect to those who choose it, were all different and worship in different ways and believe different things regardless of faith, race we are still the same underneath ..
only thing I dont get it how clustered nuns help the community if they dont go outside, but she may not be cloistered
