Reminds me of the super nanny, “creative person” in the show she creatively helps families, “worst parts of town.” Umm like the worst parts of seeing the family struggles. “Generate this moment, then she’s gone.” Ok mostly a lil bit of Marry Poppins & or Nanny Mcfee.

  3. Cat Collision says

"Exploiting Vivian Maier" is a far more suitable title for this documentary..

  4. Luca R says

so sad she never had what she deserved…

  5. Luca R says

you cant divide the pictures from the story, the story of her life gives something special to her work.

Thanks for the trailer. There's 1000'a of photographers during the 1950s- 1960's. What makes this woman's work special? How many photos are taken in 2017?

  8. Maxwell Smart_086 says

thanks to Vivian – for her dedicatio. And as you see for many people the American dream is the American nightmare…..

  9. maple1255 says

Exceptional work and talent by a deeply private woman, what a miracle it was discovered and saved, thanks to the young man who purchased her body of work, now seen around the world, thank you Vivian for these photographic treasures.

I think.. wes anderson would make a great movie about her.

This was literally the cutest documentary I ever watched. So well made, she was such a wierdo, such a persona… Absolutely loved it, too bad Vivian didn't get the fame when she was alive.

  12. Shooting Robot says

I found myself crying off and on during this documentary. I wish I had been able to meet this woman. I feel richer after having watched this and would love to own a photo book of her work. It's amazing yet strange how every one of us has a story and at least one thing we do well and yet like her we are not appreciated until we are dead and gone. We must some how stop, tell a story to a stranger, and hear one of theirs and appreciate the similarities and differences between us. In doing this it's hard to have hatred or indifference in our hearts for other humans.

I can somewhat understand why she would hide herself and her work. The first reason that came to mind is that to be innovative to a high degree you cannot be influenced by others. Another reason is that perhaps she had looked for acknowledgement and was rejected because her work was not appreciated; could have been an opinion from a family member or prospective employer. I expect that many people around the world hide their talent for these and other reasons, or don't have time for it because of commitment to family or need of work to survive. Another reason why Maier might have hidden her work, is perhaps she wasn't looking for acknowledgement or attention or fame, it may have been personal or a personal outlet and not intended for criticism.

dunno why I get so emotional every time I watch this trailer. So powerful

just saw this docu, soo interesting yet left me feeling sad after. i wanted her to feel that recognition. the photographs were amazing

  21. dpajc056 says

why do so many artist live as nobodys and then find fame only in death…??! Scientists too, like Tesla for example.

  22. MetalSlugzMaster says

Wonderful shots.  She knew how to make a snap of a complete stranger compelling, and that's a rare talent.  Just enough intrusiveness to make em take notice with a genuine expression.  It isn't so much what you see in her subjects either.  You see how she must have approached them. With gentle cajoling.

  23. Andrew Williams says

I wouldn't say she's the best that's ever done it but her work is beautiful and the attention it's getting is well deserved.

  24. Atarix777 says

    Wow… just awesome 🙂

This is a fascinating documentary about Vivian Maier , an odd woman , but a genius with a camera. When she died , her belongings went to auction , which included hundreds of thousands of negatives and boxes of undeveloped rolls of film . John Maloof , the director of this film started to discover , that these pictures where extraordinary and he set out to find what this woman , and her life , was all about. I enjoyed this a lot and you really have to see this film to see what a fantastic photographer of people she was.
Finding Vivian Maier is nominated in the best documentary category in this years Oscar's.

When I was living in Evanston, a 100 year old neighbor lady passed away and her grandkids came and threw out so much material. Antiques, ladies clothes from the 40s, everything. She also was a photographer. I'm sorry to say I didn't save any negatives but I hope somebody got them. They seemed to be stock photo street scenes from the 40s and 50s. My point is, what do you do when you find something like that?

  32. weirdproq1 says

I wish this would be put on home media soon so I could see it.
