A initially learned photography as a kid shooting black & white then developing the photos in a dark room, that was a magical time and sparked my interest in photography. As I got older I dabbled in digital photography but wasn't until my kids were born that i really started to get an active interest back in it all.

That happened to me in Tuolemne Meadows, around 2 a.m., a big momma bear pulled up next to my sleeping bag and woke me. It was about 8 feet away, making loud slobbering noises as it ate something that looked like tampons. I was so terrified I couldn't move, breathe, and just froze. No Fight or Flight. I Froze! It took me about two or three minutes to finally stop shaking. Then, I decided to jump up & run. That was terrifying. Later I learned bears scare easily. After about two hours of sleeplessness, I figured if it hadn't killed me, so it wasn't going to. So, I just went back to sleep. My fellow hikers didn't believe me at first, because they were inside a tent. They said the bear keep coming back and was right near my sleeping body, but I slept through it. Later, I learned those idiots hadn't treed their snacks, and had munchies in their tent!!! I had put some food under the water in a nearby lake, and the bear found all of it. They'll eat toothpaste, deodorant, gum, feminine pads, etc. I learned later one of the campers had buried her used pads near where I was sleeping. The bear dug them up.
I really thought, "Damn! I could be safe in my bed and I'm going to die here in these stupid mountains from a bear!"
