Essential LENSES and GEAR for WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

33 21

These are some of the lenses and gear I use while shooting a wedding. I’m by no means saying that this is what you NEED but it’s what I use and what has worked for me. There are so many options out there so I thought I’d share what has been useful to me.

I shoot with Canon gear primarily but I believe it’s completely up to personal preference on what brand you decide to use.

Gear mentioned in the video
Canon 50mm 1.8
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 135mm L 2.0
Tamron 24-70mm 2.8
Yonguo YN560 IV Speedlight
Yongnuo YN-560-TX Flash Controller

    Hi! Are you South African?

What "story" are you attempting to "tell" when you photograph a wedding? You're paid to photograph the day of a scripted ceremony. Don't make it out to be more (or less) than it is.

The only thing missing from this presentation was sample images for each lens.Otherwise, it was intensely educational for me. Thank you so much!

I am planning to get Tamron 70-200 mm G2 f2.8. But I have D3300 apsc sensor camera. As I need a zoom for low light will the f2.8 on apsc become f4?

I’m a student, so I want to spend my money as smart as possible. I also want to shoot weddings with my Nikons D750. I also want buy the Tamron 24-70. Do you think the G2 is worth the money or should I buy the old version and save the money to buy the 70-200 in the future?

I guess you confuse distortion with perspective.  When you get 'distortion' photographing people with a 16 mm, it's because you are too close, as the minimal focal distance allows you to.

If you shoot that Tamron at 35mm so much why don't you just buy the Sigma 35mm 1.4?

Love your stuff! What do you use to swap between lenses at weddings – I find it quite cumbersome to dip into a bag and keep swapping for the right shot. Do you use a strap or belt?

    Hello 🙂
First, congratulations on the awesome videos! I've seen them all :p

I just have kind of a question. So, I have a Canon 100D and I would like to buy another lens just to keep practicing my shots but I'm kinda indecisive on which one to go since I have a APS-C sensor. I was kinda thinking on going for a 35mm because of the crop (to resemble a 50mm) but since I am a beginner I'm really just confused xD

If it was you, which one would you go for?

    Thanks, and keep going!

  32. Tomas Ramoska says

Nice video. I use to have 50mm 1.4 is well send it back AF doesn't work properly. So I get 50mm 1.8 and upgrade to 50mm 1.8STM last year.

Good stuff man 😎 I have also the Tamron 24-70. Love it
