Is your flash set to TTL or manual? If manual do settings on flash matter?

Did you say that you used the flash that was built into the camera or a mounted flash?

In darker ambient lit conditions such as a club, you can drag your shutter for longer, like a second or two.

if you use rear shutter sync the faces wont be covered with lights and the blur will still be there.

What were your flash settings for these photos? I'm working with a flash for the first time this weekend and am having trouble working out the right settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

so the actual photo itself doesnt blur up? do you need a proper flash with this or does it work with the built in flash?

  15. Kim Jansen van Rensburg says

Hey Cole thanks for the video. Can you tell me what settings you use on the flash? TTL BL FP?

  16. davidlcb says

I am just not sure how do you get those shots in focus if it was that dark and the camera is hunting for focus, will that miss the moment?

Thanks heaps man I have been using this technique a lot, going down to the lower shutter and with DJ lights going at the same time at parties looks sick 😀

  18. Debi Sen Gupta says

how can you not use either rear or front curtain sync? The latter is the default mode. The flash either fires when the curtain closes or when it opens. Cant be any other way.

Great share! I don't shoot weddings BUT I think this technique will be perfect for capturing the fun at a kid's birthday party this weekend. Thank you!

  20. hbrookes says

look up rear shutter flash setting so the flash goes off post shutter not pre..all the smearing will be behind subject.

  21. Cole's Classroom says

Yes, actually in my case I was only using on-camera flash but if you have off camera flash in background that could really help make for some dramatic shots! good luck, you'll do awesome!

  22. Budirec says

And u use the on-camera flash aswell right?
I got a party coming up and i need to nail this technique xD
