PHOTOGRAPHY'S THREE DEGREES OF SEPARATION: JUERGEN TELLER vs WILLIAM EGGLESTON

8 191

Have you ever thought, “Well how did that photographer get that style or idea?” I am starting this series PHOTOGRAPHY’S THREE DEGREES OF SEPARATION with JUERGEN TELLER and WILLIAM EGGLESTON.

This is a start, I’ll have more to say soon. I believe that these degrees of separation are telling, but each photographer has something very definite to tell us. The subtle grace but still edge of Eggleston, and the more direct and in-your-face approach of Teller are along the same photographic path. But maybe we have to ask ourselves a few more questions about which work has more impact? Even the chosen tools, the automatic snaps of the Contax G2 as opposed to the precision of the Leica M. But maybe that is just style, and maybe a bit of personality. What does it mean? Who knows! Just enjoy the work and maybe get something from it!

Just thinking out loud. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

You mention they bkth influence eachother. How does Juergen Teller influence William Eggleston?
2 very different styles. One a master of colour and composition and making the ordinary look amazing. The other more contemporary , flat and daring.

I was using Contax G systems for a years, and its much more for me as very good "pointtoshoot" camera 🙂 but Leica M is a real camera which is teaching you a lot

    keep shooting film!

p.s. using Contax TLA 240 flash with my Leica in TTL mode, in some reason shows great results 🙂

Got here from Eric Kim and watched your three videos. It's nice to see your thoughts on photography, you got another subscriber.

And you just gave me the push to publish the 3 videos I recorded to start my channel (in Portuguese, though).
