Both do great in auto and manual mode. The Sony Zx series camera cools the images down and over exposes them, which is easy to fix in manual mode by dropping the exposure and selecting the correct white balance. The camera handles ISO ranges quite well automatically so no need to change that. One thing would make the manual mode better would be Sony finally adding RAW file support for extensive post processing.

The things that pisses me of with my Z3 is that it tends to add a lot of purple into the pictures that I take. I also find that the flash on the Z3 is very, very bad.

The Z3 does a lot better in Manual Mode than in Auto Mode. Apple still did a bit better in this video but I can do some tweaks on the manual mode to make better shots with the Z3. ^_^ Anyway, I love both of these phones. I own a Z3 but I still steal my girlfriend's iphone 6 from time to time.

    Wow the iPhone still rocks!

Did you crop the Z3 pics, btw? Since the 20 Mp mode uses 4:3 ratio, right?

iOS has a better algorithm in image processing, there 's no doubt. And this is that's why apple isn't interested in cameras with tons of pixels, because they have an excellent GPU and a very good algorithm. But I think that if Sony camera had the same algorithm it could do a lot better.

To be honest: I hate your test haha I'm totally confused what phone I should pick -.- The first was like "Yeah, iPhone!" and the second "Wow, Z3!" – to be honest: Apple products are such so easy to handle and get along with, but I actually using the Xperia Z (the first, not Z1 or Z2), so I might know how Sony procuts work as well – anyways, I'm confused now, thank's -.- (PS: Pretty good videos, just still don't know which phone I should get and to make that clear: You made it harder to decide :/)

great job Thanks .. I felt Sony was more leaning towards cooler temp , both are excellent camera no doubt ! ,  I feel Sony has the edge with more detail preservation .

i liked the wide angle for z3 camera
    and the low light pictures
but at  fucas and green pictures
i think the 6 is definitely better

I will give you that the iphone won the auto mode test, but i think the Z3 did much better here. One thing we have to take in mind is that Iphone is using a sony sensor so the only difference really is how well the focus software is and the processing.
Sony tends to be more cool and sharper while the iphone is more warm and better focus. Sony however does better in low light because of the intelligent noise reduction and bigger sensor 🙂

Thanks for this great comparison! For me there is no winner, both phones made incredibly great pictures. Additionally you have not been there when shooting those pictures, so you can't decide which one comes closer to the reality. Anyway i have a question: What is that for a case on the iPhone? I'm not quite sure which case i'm going to buy, but i want one which sticks out the of screen, so it does not shatter when dropped.

the sony won With a fairly big margine if you look at the amount of detail and noise preformance, to more Natural colours.
Although, the first Picture in the slide show I gave as a win to the iphone, due to the Z3 blowing out some of the highlights. the Z3 won every subsequent picture
