Houston Marathon 2019 – Sports Photography – 50mm Canon Lens

On January 20, 2019, I had the opportunity to photograph runners at the Houston Marathon 2019 and it was an incredible experience. This was the first time I had ever photographed a Marathon, was an incredible experience. There was a total of 33,000 runners from 59 countries and all 50 states.

I wanted to get to get two different outlooks of the marathon; so I set up at the 8-mile marker in Rice Village under the beautiful oak trees. This gave me the challenge of catching the runners faces as the sun peeks through the oak trees.

For the second outlook, I set-up at the 25-mile marker on Allen Parkway, I set-up there for great light and more importantly, this is where you can see the pain and courage in the runners’ faces. While shooting today, I learned aperture vs speed. My best images were 2.8 / 2500. I some images at 4000, but the best images were definitely captured at 2.8 aperture.
