This list is based on the triple s factor plus cost. Now the 135mm f2.8 is divine. You say the Zeiss apo Sonnar 135mm f2 is better, but doesn't make the list because of price? Is the Zeiss better than the Nikkor 135mm f2?

Quick — call the producers of Horders! This video makes me feel good as I have six Nikon F mount lenses (five primes inc. one manual, one wide angle zoom) and eyeing up a 7th. Three made his SSS list! The 50/1.4D, 85/1.8G, and the 35/2D. No-brainers, those, really. (And I stll say that for the cost of a used 50/1.4 D, go with the faster 50. If you're a prime shooter who shoots low-light candids where every stop in the triangle matters, 1.4 in a 50 is a must own imo. If you're going to spring for on fast lens in your kit, dat be da one…) I'm sure the one I'm considering TAP would hate : 80-200/4.5-5.6D as a cheap and small daylight travel zoom to round things out. Enjoyable and informative post, as always.

Hi Ken, I have purchased the 35mm DX of your recommendation to use on my D7000 in the past. I have just purchased the Nikon AF35F2 to use on My D7000 with the view to getting a full frame Camera very Soon. I have just started to use it on my D7000 and have found that I'm experiencing problems with the 'Auto Focus?' not locking on when using in some landscape shots. I brought this grey market from Hong Kong and was wondering if you have any thoughts on what may be happening before I go through the process to send back to Hong Kong.

Mr Angry Just bought, Nikon AF-NIKKOR ED 200mm F/3.5. There is not much about it on the net, what can you tell me about it.

    Thank you so much

I'm leaning toward the D500 for myself and the D7200 for my wife, what 3 or 4 lens do you recommend. Here is what we are thinking about Nikon zoom 17-55 f2.8 DX G ED, Nikon zoom 200-500 f5.6 ED AR, Nikon zoom 24-70 f2.8 G and the Tokina AT-X PRO D 100 f2.8 macro.

  8. silvere36 says

    the Voigtlander 58mm curiously didn't make it…

  10. Kai Liu Visual says

    forget 55mm f2.8 macro. I have 55mm f2.8, 50mm f2 ais, tokina 100mm f2.8, 180mm f2.8 now. the 55mm f2.8 produce best looking image to my eye.

  16. Dominican Amber Fossils says

Hi, thanks for your work. Any information about 28-80mm 2.8 AF-S??

  17. TheMarkedWolf says

+Theoria Apophasis what do you think of the 28mm f2.8D Nikkor lens for DX? Is it good for $150?

  18. Gael32 says

Just curious (because I know jack-all about lenses), would a lens at, just tossing a random focal length out there, 35mm designed for an FX camera but mounted on a crop sensor body present a nearly identical picture to a 35mm lens designed specifically for DX?

I know that with the crop factor 35mm on an APS-C sensor camera is closer to 50mm (52.5mm) when compared to full frame cameras but don't know if the companies that produce the lenses have specific compensation lingo that goes with them.

  19. Martijn Bloemhard says

Damn good reviews from this crazy guy, love it above all other lens reviewers and websites!!!!

  20. Peter Piper says

Ken, I'd be interested in knowing what your experience has been with the Nikon 28 70mm 2.8D. Very little written about this lens and hard to get a well respected opinion on it. I'd guess you've owned it at one time or another (or possibly still own one) but I've never seen it in any of your reviews. Is it a bit of a turkey or just a lens that time forgot?

  21. garnitan says

I had to save this video so I can make sure that any lens I want to buy is Angry Photographer approved.
I bought the 70-300mm f 4.5-5.6G on your recommendation, and i love it!

    Thanks!!

  22. Fechete Alex says

You have a very good collection

  23. Aldis Berjoza says

Are storing your lenses in these cases all the time? Would you recommend it?

  24. Jeff Chen says

should you update this now that you love the tamron 15-30 and tamron 45mm ?

  25. Ben Mak says

A guy on the couple's video said about you "Now you show me how he actually knows about lenses." so I linked him this video. No reply, but instead he replies to someone else that just mocks him… You know this already, but your criticizers act invisible when proof is presented in their face.

  26. Nicholas Erwin says

I'm looking to get a cheap ultra wide for my D610, what would you recommend? I thought about the 20 2.8/3.5 AIS lenses.

  27. bananaboyatwork says

huh? in another video you prais the 28mm 3.5 above the 24mm 2.8 af-d, and now this lens is a looser? dont get it.

  28. mokotramp says

Hey Theo, quick question for you? Would you say the Tokina macro is close to the Nikon 200 f4? I know the working distance is double, but I guess I could use my x2 converter to get to 200mm if needed? Plus the Nikon is 4 times the cost!!! I'm surprise the big Nikkor micro never made it on your list? Cheers matey!
