I recently did a quick tour of a few Landscape Photography “Park & Shoot” locations in the Snowdonia mountains. I mentioned that I would return to cover them in more detail. I chose this location to revisit first because I was rained off the last time I was here. But, more importantly, because I was in the area and the late afternoon winter light was fabulous!

So I was hopeful of an interesting sunset to capture above the Snowdon horseshoe. I wasn’t disappointed. Despite difficult windy conditions for a landscape photography long exposure, I was able to come away with a couple of images with which I was quite pleased.

I find I’m being asked more and more often about the equipment I use. As I’ve typed up countless replies and links and lists for friends and viewers, I’ve now set it all out definitively here:

Another great location David. The long exposure view in camera is fantastic, I never knew that it was possible to view the exposure "cooking"! If I had that feature on my camera it would save thousands of wasted images. The only saving grace is there all digital and easily deleted. But that said the composition would change and could be lost if the setup isn't correct. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Who cares about f16 when the photo is a good as that!!?? Really lovely!

Lovely set of images, and love that feature on the camera when taking a long exposure. A very useful tool indeed 🙂

Nice video David. The images did a great job of capturing that great light. I really like that feature with the long exposures. I could have done with that on plenty of mine, which have been ruined by poor guesswork and poor calculations.

Sorry for my late and not very often visits, try to be better….. but you know how it is when the life "strucks "; great soft light rewarded you nicely and you took full advantage from it, cheers V!

Wonderful upload Thankyou Mr G. 😊

Lovely images David even in that wind

Great shot from a tough condition location David. I need to catch you when you have some minutes in Facebook, to get some specifics on the mechanics of long exposure, using my specific gear, I don't even know if I can coax long exposures out of my little Canon. Thanks again for the informative vlog sir.

Another great episode. May I make a suggestion. Have a look at Terry Lanes youtube channel, some very interesting thoughts on Olympus MFT.

"I will use the tools that I've got, to get the image I want" – I subscribe completely to this, in addition to your channel! Lovely idea sharing beautiful locations in Snowdonia not requiring mountaineering skills to access!!

Wonderful imagery, the info for the area is so valuable and notes have been made. Excellent video!! So good I’ve watched it twice. I tend to do that when I’m in bed with you 😂👍

Am i the only one who likes the normal photo more than the long exposure? Nice vodeo by yhe way.

  14. Brilliant David love the features in that camera. I now use Fuji as my FF was far to heavy I’m 65. This year plan to list park and shoot sites as well in Scotland where I stay great idea! And who says you can’t shoot landscapes with MFT’s and APS-C and far too much emphasis on sharpness and clarity of detail nowadays there’s much more to image quality. Great vlog

Thanks for sharing this location again David it really did look windy. It is always a struggle capturing video footage in the wind I thought you managed well. I always shoot way more than needed so I can get some that is useable in such conditions. I really liked the first image where the sun is just disappearing behind the mountain , it is beatiful 😀 Teddy

Thanks very much for the more detailed explanations.

Great images David. Being able to see a long exposure "develop" on the back of your camera is an awesome feature. See you on the next one.

    Very nice Mr Griff 👍

Love the way that you don’t need perfect shots, great for us mere mortals. Think I’ll wait for Spring/Summer as I only have a lightweight travel tripod. I knew I shouldn’t have given my heavier one to my Niece

  20. Brian Egerton says

Lovely shots David, great video once again and great location.

  21. Roy Norris says

Never mind the nay sayers David about f numbers, it is a beautiful image.

That's not wind,we have a cyclone heading our way as I write…lovely work as usual Sir,glad you are enjoying the Oly.

  23. Red35 Photography says

What a sunset! It's so calm (I know you said about the strong wind! but hey, the picture is wonderfully captured). Lovely lake and perfect for a picnic, a cuppa and chat.

  24. Kevin Murray says

Another superb video David, the long exposure histogram/simulator looks really helpful. Definitely makes me want an OM-D E-M1 MkII even more now. It does look like you had some battle with your vlogging camera against that wind though! Looking forward to the next video already!

  25. Steve Marson says

    Nice pics. !

  26. tony twyman says

Great image sir, the olympus is so underatted 🌞

  27. Jamie Overland says

That long exposure simulator is really cool. Whilst I love long exposures (>30 secs), its frustrating when you close the shutter too early and then have to cook and wait all over again!! I was actually in South Wales (yes I know!!) on Monday night and managed to nip out for an early morning long exposure!!

  28. JustDuff says

Nice Mr G tried to stop here last summer but it was chock-a-block, maybe I'll get a chance end of march 🤔. Camera is quite impressive 👍

  29. Tim Scanlan says

Hi David. Super images from a fabulous location. Really impressed with the long exposure gizmo on your Olympus – it looks a great piece of kit. The "park and shoot" series really works, so keep 'em coming please ! Many thanks for sharing another excellent vlog David.

  30. Alan D says

Thanks David. I may stop by there on the way home at the weekend 😀

  31. Lloyd Bligh says

You made the most of that day, very nice photo’s .

  32. Jeff Ogden says

Another winner David, well done. I've actually been to that spot and was chuffed to have "found" that composition myself, not realising that it was such an iconic location. Beautiful shots at the end and excellent demonstration of the "live time" exposure feature. I have used that on my long exposures with my em-1 and it is an incredible tool. Must make the non-mirrorless owners a bit jealous. Cheers, Jeff

  33. Miguel A. Corona says

Wonderful location and images. The peaks look grand. Love the EM-1's ability to show "live" long exposure. I've yet to use it on my EM-1 but your illustration provides a good idea of how it works. Enjoyed your "mid-week" post. Cheers.

  34. Alan Coles says

Nice variation on the images produced from the shoot David. I have watched the LE building up on my mates Mark 1 – real useful tool, saves faffing around with calculations maybe? 🙂 Always wondered how the name of the lake is pronounced, thank you 🙂

  35. Re: Photography says

Lovely shots and a great explanation of how the long exposure works. Honestly, the more I see of that camera the more tempted I am to buy one!! Thanks for the mention by the way 🙂

  36. Hugh Gillings says

Been to Llynnau Mymbyr quite a few times David , but not yet achieved what I'm looking for yet. It's a great location and easy to get to as well. I found the feature of watching the exposure 'develop' in camera very interesting. You've got a good result, I'd be happy with that 🙂

  37. Tony Green says

It was a fairly ambitious goal for any camera to shoot into the sun and hope to turn smooth a lake disturbed by high winds. Minimum iso of 200 doesn't help, but I thought the first image, with waves, very effective.

  38. Introverted Pixels says

I love the philosophy of using what you've got and putting composition and light before sharpness. Great stuff 👍
