That ring flash has a setting to reduce the light output on one side of the flash. That way you get some modeling.

Thanks for this helpful video. I have a 40mm macro lens for my Nikon d3400 but I want to take a macro from distance especially for insects photography. Don't want to spend money on 150mm macro or other macro lenses. I want to use my 70-300mm as macro lens. So what will be a better choice: Extension tube or Macro filter (ring adopter). Thanks in advance.

shrieeeks I wanted to wait with getting a flash but you semi-convinced me I probably need one for shooting insects.
Well, to be fair I've only had my macro lens for about 2 days, but already on day one I was thinking "Imma need VC, and maybe even a tripod :(".
Second day out I had better luck, but I still struggled getting shots I wanted to keep, and again I felt like: "Tripod.. VC!!! >.<"
Today is cloudy and grey.. I like the harsh sunlight actually, especially with random clouds; it helps, I feel, make the flowers stand more out.
Hoooweveeer.. Few insects are considerate/patient enough to wait for ME to fiddle with my settings for any given situation..
So yeah.. Maybe a ring-thingy would be neat ^^

Can I do a macro 35mm canon f2.8 + 68mm extension + diopter, or will that focus be so close that even a subject touching my lens will be too far away from the sensor? Is there a way to calculate this based on the mm and camera? I use a EOS 77D (9000D)
