In his opinion the brand new Sony A9 has the features, build quality, and technology to be the best wedding photography camera in the world. At the time of posting this video the Sony A9 is still unavailable to the public. Jason has had the opportunity to shoot with the camera prior to making this video and has tested all of the features and functions he talks about in this video.

That experience combined with his 10 years as an international destination wedding photographer and teacher gives him the insight to determine what he believes will be the best choice as a camera for wedding photographers.

Jason also discusses the lenses he recommends for wedding photographers as well as fields questions from a live audience regarding the A9 to hopefully help those watching on Youtube to try and answer some of the same questions they may ask as well.

We hope you enjoy the video and hope it helps all of you out there. Don’t forget to subscribe and click on notifications on Jason’s channel!!

    what about the 24-70mm 2.8 gm? i‘ve seen a professional weddingphotographer shooting a whole wedding with a canon 5d mark 4 and a tamron 24-70mm f 2.8.
    what
    about taking the 24-70mm 2.8 gm + 70-200mm 2.8 gm and the 85mm 1.4mm gm?

Hi Jason, How about A7R iii? Except for the big file size , it's it not good in low light/ high ISO? I read A7R iii give sharper images ?

I have canon lenses. Would you recommend the A9 with canon lenses?

Love my A9 shot numerous weddings – I am experiencing under some conditions banding. Anyone have any suggestions.

I have RII and I love silent shooting even I'm not a photographer. It's just awesome in many many situations, and I totally agree can be really annoying in the wedding those clicks-clicks around. Just a viewfinder quality sucks if I shoot with sony and then switch to Panasonic g8 whatever it's like a day and night, or maybe my sony viewfinder simply dirty but today I did notice. Anyway just to mention my favourite brand NIKON, fuck you ! 4 years you owe me 900 dollars when you blame me for your shitty "waterproof" camera door leaking. At that time I said you will go fucking down and that's what happened, Never ever go fuck with me again.

Hello Jason. Thanks for this video (and good to see you in the UK).
Of course if we are talking FUTURE Sony and Fujifilm are taking over. I have a question what would you recommend me to do. Here's the situation: I am passionate landscape photographer (amateur) – not vlogger, not blogger. Just a guy taking a lot of pleasure walking outdoors and taking photos. Of course my work is not as impressive as yours, but if you want to see it, there you are: http://www.mt-outdoor.photography
As mentioned above I have a question. But first: here's my situation: I am just an ordinary man, houseband and father for 3 girls. I'm 41. I do have only 1 camera, which is prehistoric Nikon D90 + 3 lenses: Tokina 11-20 f/2.8, Nikkor 18-105 kit and 50 f/1.8 That's it. I also have filters, macro tubes, tripods etc. I do not have a speed light, as I always shoot in ambient / available light. I watched a tone of your videos and I know that the only thing that is separating photographers from ordinary people with camera phones is light.
I like to learn new things and would like to start doing some weddings. There is a lot of youtubers that are keen to tell everyone what they need to shoot wedding, but I would like to know your opinion about gear. Having 4000 Pound Sterling budget what would you recommend me to purchase so I could start my wedding photography adventure. I would like to know your opinion about single card slot camera, for example: Fuji x-t20 is 1/2 price of x-t2 and has most of the same features, but only 1 card slot – would you use it for wedding? How to prevent card from corrupting? Would you tell me what cameras, lenses and lights can you recommend me to buy for up to 4000GBP, please. Thank you very much for your time.

I am passionate follower and I admire your work. I wish I started doing weddings when I had a chance – I was asked by so many people, but I always replied "I don't shoot people – I shoot for pleasure". That was most stupid thing I ever done and I regret it now. Please help.

Hi, could you please let me know what camera was used to film this video. Thank you, have a beautiful day 🙂

  14. Marian Palko says

To be the devils advocate, in the A7R2 video you said that a 30 frames buffer is enough 😂

  15. Marian Palko says

Oh come on Sony please make an A9R, I really don't want to buy that D850 😂

  16. Kevin Brazda says

Sony A9 is the best. Industry will follow its innovation.

  17. Antero Hein says

Great video! Thank you! One question: I work with film and photo, I mainly shoot photos of performances, dance and theatern, on Nikon d800 and D5 at the moment. And I film dance and theater with Sony a7sii, a7rii and fs700. That means I would need to buy the same glass for both systems, wich is abit of a waste. So im wondering if you have experience in shooting stills on theater conditions (lot of different kind of lights) with the a9? for dance I really need a fast fps like the D5 has. Strongly thinking about getting rid of D5 and buy the A9.

  18. ericthestone says

Awesome video once again! Support! Because of your channel, I switched from Canon to Sony. Love it ever since!

  19. Noe Palacios says

    Hey Jason,
Would you recommend 24-70 2.8 for Wedding?

  20. 3 Dengz says

now is the year of D850

  21. Maria Shields says

Jason you are my favorite photographer. I have learned so much from you. I am currently saving up for a Sony A9. I need a camera that takes awesome pictures and require less editing on Photoshop. I have multiple sclerosis and it has affected my vision. A day like today is a bad one for me. I need this camera. Not trying to sell you a sob story but you mentioned that Sony gives them to you for free. If you ever feel to donate one for me I'd greatly appreciate it. Email me at handsunited4gsus@gmail.com Photography is my desire and my escape. To everyone that loves photography When you are done at eye doctor's and your pupils are dialated I want you to pick up your camera and go out and take pictures. (sighing) that's my day with MS behind a lens.

    Thank you for reading
    Have a blessed day

1/32000 of a second?! YES PLEASE!!! My D5 Max is 1/8000 of a second. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this camera and probably will snag the next version and see what happens. Thanks.

  23. Adrian Hargan says

Wait, why would YOU need/want it, is what I meant.

  24. Adrian Hargan says

Y'know, they all say that the camera isn't important and we get these 'this is my iPhone album' people who are just really masturbating about how they don't need the real thing. So, wankers, I suppose. Jason, if I was any good why would I need the A9?

  25. Hakski says

Jason – Can you confirm that the A9 can do HSS and if so, what is the limit on shutter speed when using flash in a TTL mode? Would you recommend Sony's speed lights or just go with 3rd party (Phottix, etc). You are a huge help to my photography questions – keep up the amazing work and followings.

It's why I invented "You only have one chance to get it right" — ohhhh so you invented that phrase. Wow.

  27. Neth BT says

This guy is a SONY SHILL it's getting annoying

  28. JAY STATON says

Great 10 reason list. So I should stop using my Deardorff 8×10? It doesn't have any issues with buffering.

  29. Aaron Rebarchek says

This may be your best talking head video to date. All hail the silent shutter! Why does Ken Wheeler say the a9 would be terrible camera for wedding photographers?
I had the a7ii but ditched it because it didn't serve me well. The a9 has me thinking about Sony again for weddings.

  30. Viisshnu Vardhan says

I dont think the batteries will last a wedding. Better to invest in a canon or nikon or even a sony DSLR system.

  31. Zamani Feelings says

Definitely is an advancement overall for portraits, weddings, events as well as indoor sports. I am waiting for Sony to create some big glass so I can use it on the football fields where I shoot. 400mm 2.8 and 600mm f4 etc.

  32. Victor Zerga says

lol there's about 15min of BS in this 29min clip.. and I'm a "working pro" shooting both A9 and D5 🙂 A9 is a good camera no doubt.. but he makes it sound like if you buy anything else you got no chance 🙂 ( because of silent shutter and EVF oh and buffer and 20fps which he later said you'll never need at a wedding ) bottom line.. a lot of things to like on the A9 but is it the best wedding photography camera? Personally I'm not selling my D5 just yet…

  33. SuperDigitalMe says

Jason, im an amateur, do you think im crazy i will buy one? 🙂

  34. david brandsma says

what about sports photography? and the lack of necessary glass? Dave

  35. milner3 says

    Yawn…….

  36. BLC says

Look up the word "shill" in the dictionary. Your credibility is GONE!

  37. Daniel Cabral says

I agree about the EVF. My curiosity was aroused when I first read about it. Who wouldn't? I shoot Fuji and I like how I can select to see the histogram in the view finder while composing the shot. I agree with you about changing with the times. If people are in the market for a new camera, it is really hard to look at DSLRs. I am really interested to see what new features the new A7 models will bring. If people are tight on budget, but want a full-frame camera, the original A7 is still a good option.

  38. Austin The Dad says

Great video. Also at around the 9 minute forty second mark there's a guy who walks backwards into a tree. Had me LoLing
