THE BEST SUNRISE I'VE EVER SEEN? | Landscape Photography

38 33

The best sunrise I’ve ever seen? Quite possibly. Sunrises are so much better than sunsets in my opinion! I think one of main reasons why I love them so much is that more often than not you have them all to yourself and they are just that little bit more elusive/challenging to photograph. In this video I head to the coast to capture sunrise over a beatiful beach and what I end up being treated to was nothing short of spectacular! High level clouds glowed deep oranges, yellows and red delivering one of those special landscape photography moments. In this video I specifically discuss how to predict the best sunrises looking at high cloud in the weather forecast and how a positive mindset is the most important skill for any landscape photographer.

I use photopills Augmented Reality feature to determine the sun and moon exact position on any given date. Never failed me so far.

Lol! That’s the same time I usually get up 😂😂😂😂. Nice job James!

  3. Cristian Baluta says

Hmm, sunrises at high altitudes are way better. Same for high latitudes. The sun idea i was sure it doesn't make any difference

Wow why a morning. Great colourful sky. You got a nice image not sure how many you took to pick that one but that was amazing with the swirl and the lead in from the sea wash. Then coloured rocks in your b role looked interesting. Good world get out and go.

  5. Steve Hedges Photography says

Great image and I totally agree you just need to get out there. The more we're out the luckier we get.

  6. Rob Outen Photography says

Awesome Sunrise image James. It pays to make sure your on location in good time before sunrise to capture the colours. Thanks for the tip about Clear Sky's, I'll check it out. Lastly, 100% agree with you about getting out and taking images rather than staying in! Thanks for sharing, Cheers.

Very well put James, awesome image.

Stunning sky! Did you take any photos pre sunrise? Never know how it’ll pan out. 🙏

Totally rad video, James! I enjoyed watching everything. Great B Roll to help tell the story of you being there and awesome message at the end of the video too! Great words for encouragement of getting out there! Also, the colors of the sunrise was brilliant!

Nice one James, Gorgeous colours and sky and well worth the early start. Clear Outside is one of the weather apps I use but even they can't seem to get it right here in this part of Spain. Thanks for sharing

    Gorgeous shot!

That was a cracker James. I was out with Dave Griff last weekend in Snowdonia and we had a similar sunrise. It only lasted a few minutes, but wow, just beautiful.

Plus, I couldn’t agree more with your comment on getting up and getting out. Again, last weekends trip was a 450 mile round trip for an 8 hour shoot and it was worth every second.

Loving the video’s James and that was a beautiful LE to capture the movement in the sea as well as the sky.

    Top man 👍

Someone asked a great news photographer, (back in the days of film), what settings he used to get all his great shots. His answer: F8, and BE THERE. Nice photo. I mean, gorgeous photo. Nice job. Thanks.

I like the lesson regarding cloud conditions and what to expect. I have trouble figuring out what weather conditions will lend themselves to particular potential images. Hope that mad3 some sense. I sure enjoy your videos.

👍 Excellent post and advice, James. Love the bonus of tidal swirls in the photo at at about 4.5 min in video. Your thumbnail image is a keeper, too — reflection in filter makes the shot. With your sunrise prediction skills, I’ll bet that in a former life you were busy at Stonehenge telling folks when the sun would line up just so 🌄🌝.

  19. Chris Hunt says

That is a stunning image James. We have had some glorious sunrises recently but I never know when they are going to happen so thanks for the mention of the App. Definitely worth the effort you put in. First time I’ve seen sea weed look beautiful! 😜 You had the tide out as well which was perfect. 👍👍👍

Hey james, next time you can try lighting yourself with led lights and exposure for the sky as well…Nice video

  23. Stanley Wall says

Beautiful … i've been in similar situation, i've used similar set up, but I added 6 stops ND filter to give me long exposure up to 20 seconds ,,,so I got lots of details in the colorful sky ….. I like your work … Thanks for sharing … keep up the Good work …. Cheers

Holy Moly that was a great sunrise. Not easy to talk to a vid cam when its all kicking off behind you. You captured it beautifully.

  28. Brook Wassall says

Great video James, can't thank you enough for sharing the weather app you use! Headed out for sunrise myself this morning after looking at the Met Office, all I got was a bunch of low cloud which killed it. Just gotta wait for this storm to bugger off now!

  29. Lynne Luxon-Jones says

Makes all those grey compress early stars do worthwhile James 👍👍

  32. Adrian Alford Photography says

Yep that's a ripper sunrise mate. Excellent image and yes totally agree, no matter what go out and shoot, you may not get the sunrise you wanted, but you'd be devastated if you missed a sunrise like that. Thanks for sharing the adventure.

You're right about mindset James, it's a battle sometimes but well worth it when you get scenes like you did.
Btw, those pale coloured stripey rocks at the back of the beach look great for a few abstract shots ?
