7:10 Professional Dancer is one that I hear a lot as a dancer. And come to think of it Professional Players, like sports players. The reason I feel like people say this is because Photography (along with the other professions I mentioned) can also be a hobby. Therefore people emphasize Professional, to indicate that they get paid for what they do. Nobody says "I'm a Doctor" and then receives a follow up question like "As a hobby or Professionally?" haha
I don't know if you are aware of this curiosity but… I shoot weddings in Portugal and the standard here is full day coverage like 14-16 hours per wedding. Just crazy! Last wedding I started at 10 am and went home at 2 am… 16 hours total. In Portugal is the normal thing. And don't let me start speaking about the tiny and dark churches… 🙁 Wedding photography is quite painful in my country. Amazing in certain ways, push you to the limits, but when i get home and sleep like 6 hours because in the next day i have another wedding or baptism…hell.
I would LOVE to second shoot. Now find me a photographer that will let me do it with them… no one wants competition.
The comparison with the lawyer and doctor is a little bit flawed. There are very few part time doctors and also not many part time lawyers. On the other hand there are many part time photographers. Full or part time says nothing about how good you are. As you say there are many crappy full time "pro" photographers. Let your work speak for you!
Every time I do a wedding I watch your videos.
Great video and sound advice.
these are great info thanks for making this video.
Hi! Thank you so much for this! Where do you outsource your photos to!

You guys are awesome!
Agree, its always less money. Great video guys.
Hey,
What are your thoughts on the Sony a7R II? Do you think it could be a good camera for a wedding/portrait/street photographer?
I currently have a D810 and:
14-24
24-70 VR
105 macro
50 1.4g
I also have a Nikon F100 with a Tamron 75-300 (It's a shitty lens, I'm going to replace it with a 70-200 as soon as possible
I really like my D810, but it is really big and heavy, and the OVF is really annoying because you don't see exactly what you are getting, so I have to chimp whenever there is bad light and I don't know what I'm going to get (like I don't know how much dof i need or how much exposure compensation I need to get the snow to be white, etc.) Also, the small size and weight of the a7R II would be amazing.
But there are many things that I am worried about:
-battery life
-lack of fast zooms
-24-70 isn't that great optically
-focus point selection
-weather sealing – I also do a lot of landscapes in bad weather like rain and snow, so I need good weather sealing
I would love to know your guy's opinion, I know that I am not going to upgrade to the a7R II, but probably to the a7R III or a7 III when that comes out. My plan is to see what lenses Sony is going to come out with this year and what cameras Nikon is going to come out with and see if it makes sense to switch.
hey man I'm looking at starting a business to upskilling in directing and writing. but I'm needing to know the fundamental things such as videographers, making films and the business side especially in producing moives. I'm wondering if this could be for me. my mate said that it's the worst job in the world. even though his a photographer.
Great video guys! I started with Fashion photography last year, and I want to do wedding as well. Still sounds scary to me, but I'll make sure I don't rush things and that my skills ar at their best aye. xoxo
