How to cull wedding photos using photo mechanic
Hey guys!! In this video, I quickly share how to cull wedding photos using Photo Mechanic. I use photo mechanic for all my portrait, personal, and wedding work. I use this software to ONLY select the best, and move on from there into Lightroom. I find that this works best for my editing workflow.

thank you. Super helpful. I couldn't remember the keystrokes.
You just "changed my life." Thank you Joy Michelle Photography!
Thanks for the video! I am considering purchasing Photo Mechanic and like how after I have selected images in Light Room I can delete the raws I am not using with one click. Does PM have this feature as well? Thank you!
thanks! I love short and sweet, get to the point videos. A quick and easy tutorial!
This was SO helpful!!
looks cool but what's wrong with Adobe Bridge?
can you open them in Photoshop? i don't use lightroom.
I’m pretty sure you just saved my life. Thank you!
I have been shooting weddings for 5 years and this has been one of the most time consuming issues with shooting over 1000 images at weddings. Interesting also how some people delete what they dont like, where as you keep what you do like. Your way probably makes more sense.
Great video, thanks for posting. In my experience, importing into and culling in Lightroom is actually a quick process; as long as you have Lightroom build previews. With previews built there is no lag time and there are many great tools built into Lightroom for organizing and culling. It's all about your preferred workflow though.
I use presets in camera raw instead of lightroom. I thought there was a way to edit your photos in photomechanic? I'm not sure if you can with presets… just want to be able to use photomechanic to it's fullest capabilities.
Hey girl! Thank you so much for this!
So here's my question… I just downloaded the trail version, but when I import my images into PM they have a slightly blurred look. When I zoom in they are horribly pixilated. I'm not sure what the issue is as I'm obviously very new to PM. The images are RAW files. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! 😀 I'm excited to start using this program to speed up the process of weddings! 😀
I'm just having a trial of photo mechanic. Question: Is there a way to use it on images already in Lightroom? I have tried to select all images in Lightroom and import metadata from disk but nothing. It just puts an up arrow on the image that notes an external change and then you have to individually import the data which is slow. There must be a way but I cannot fathom it and have tried all the recommended preferences to make the software compatible. Works for images not yet imported to Lightroom but I'm failing to get it to work with existing Lightroom images. Any help appreciated..
so quickly explained, learned just what I needed to. thank you!
Omg I LOVE you for this video! I just got photomechanic and culled an entire maternity session in like 15 minutes 😍😍😍😍
hi joy! how do you import photos into photo mechanic and export them to lightroom? i downloaded PM a few months and never use it because i can't figure it out 💕
Hi Joy.Great video. Why don't you use the shortcut keys to score your images 1-5 and then use a filter to only see the 4-5 rated images? Wouldn't this be faster than manually clicking in the sub-menu?
Very nice video 🙂
Hi Joy! Just in case you don’t already know this, you can speed up your workflow even more by using the [ and ] keys to rotate your images, instead of pulling up the contextual menus. Great video and workflow. Thanks for helping spread the word on Photo Mechanic!
I started using this program after one of your videos too and it's amazing!! My only concern is that the pictures look pixelated I don't know if it's because I'm using the trial version. Either way is better than Lightroom
Super informational, thanks for sharing!! great video!! 🙂
Hi Joy! Thanks for sharing! I'm currently using Lightroom and it does to take forever to load images. I spend a lot of time importing and waiting in LR than doing something else with my time. Thanks again! Question, what happens to the images you don't select or tag on photo mechanic?
What are you currently using to cull your images?
