A initially learned photography as a kid shooting black & white then developing the photos in a dark room, that was a magical time and sparked my interest in photography. As I got older I dabbled in digital photography but wasn't until my kids were born that i really started to get an active interest back in it all.
You should be a bit more specific about your claims. First, of course you can purchase your own portraits. It’s putting them in the yearbook as your senior picture that you can’t do! You can always pay someone else to take regular senior pics that you can give to your friends, etc..
And your concern appears to be wanting to edit the picture that goes into the yearbook as your senior pic. You don’t really say that. You just say that the prices are too expensive.
If you want these photographers to work for free then just say so.
