So much easier to simply convert your signature to a brush that is always at hand and you don't need to do all this drama!
Once you've made your signature you can save it as a Brush and you will always have it, just choose brush, then your signature, then choose your color. Much easier than importing a file everytime you want to add a signature. Search making a logo into a brush and it's basically the same process.

It’s easier to scan your signature on white paper and save it as a photo. You can then import the photo, remove the white background and you’ve got your signature layer.

But I just have one question. If you've saved the signature as a JPEG, and "multiply" it onto the photo, is there a way to invert the colour of the writing without the background popping up again? Not sure if I'm explaining this good enough, but I'll give it a try.
