I am an MMA practitioner as well as a wedding photographer, I wanna see that full story of PI doing grappling… BTW I like both SLR LOUNGE AND FStoppers!
That first (clock) image is fine except, yes a static pose and the clock bar growing out of her head is not great. But the first thing that struck me is the composition! I would have included the top of the clock and shot it as an upright image. Yes, suggest movement in the brides body and PS out the bar above her head, but of course the image would still be posed!
Great video, subscribed. Got a lot of useful tips for my own photography so thank you very much.
16:40 I had to turn this critique off at this point because it became way too predictable. A male photographer choosing a dramatically lit shot over a real emotion shot? Who coulda guess that eh? Also you couldn't like an image because of the scar on a brides shoulder?? Critiquing the photographers choice for leaving it in is so old fashioned. We shouldn't edit out scars unless the couple ask us to. And even then I would try to convince them to leave them in as they are inherently part of them now and should be appreciated and loved as much as any other part. When brides know you will edit out things like that they would surely also then start asking for teeth whitening and double chin removal and making arms smaller and waists thinner… these are things we should be avoiding like the plague because that's not how they looked on thay day! Aren't we just meant to record what happened to 2 real people?
This is the only Fstoppers video I’ve ever watched. I appreciated the critiques and I sat assessing and absorbing through this whole video. I agreed with Pye for almost every image. But, the one with the couple in the ocean and the boat to the left just looked over edited, maybe it’s the device I’m watching on.
Otherwise, thank you for honest and insightful critiques, I wouldn’t call them harsh because I think every image and photographer can use tips to make things better. Constantly learning and improving is what keeps things growing, photography is no different.
But… the first one was incredible! I don’t understand how he rated that one lower than some of the others.
Yes,,,I actually sat through this whole thing…and enjoyed it 😉

First-time critique watcher… I saw the length of this video beforehand and thought, “no way I’m sticking around for this whole thing.” Then, proceeded to watch for the next hour, completely compelled! Great stuff! Thank you for the shared expertise!
I almost didn’t watch this episode because sometimes I feel your critiques are mean without any real information on how the photographer could improve and the title made me feel you were going to take that to another level. However, I was pleasantly surprised, these critiques were very fair with great advice on how the photos could be improved. Great episode 😊
The bald guy is just obnoxious.
The picture of the bride looking up has an outdated, old fashioned yellow(ish) feel about it.
The picture of the bride infront of the clock is so awful it’s unbelievable. It has a sense of doom hanging over it and is so cluttered with too many sharp things going into her. Just so aggressive.
first one looks like a composite idk wouldn't there be some mechanism on the inside that turns the hands on the clock or something looks fake
i wish both of these guys weren't wearing sandals
Plot Twist: the guy that Pye gave away his course to for free uses the material and becomes one of the world's best photographers in about 5-10 years 🤣🤣🤣
JackPye "Context"DorseyJirsaPye just hates everything , what a grump
you guys should add numbers to the images as you view & critique them to make adding comments easier.
Haha I'm one of the people whom watched the whole thing. Sometimes I play these kinds of things in the background, while editing or researching. Would be rad to do a sports photography critique, could niche down into collections of disciplines, eg. winter sports or water sports or field sports etc. Thanks for all your hard work team!
Pye is kind for choosing that photographer.
Very important to hear leaders in a field critique. Great video. There is an artist's or photographer's impression of an image, and then there is the customer's impression of their images. Manytimes, I have them choose a handful of their favorites. And surprisingly, they aren't the artistic images I have focused on, or spent the most time on creating.
I kind of agreed with the critique of the “best” shot. The lighting on her dress is too dark too.
53:00 I feel like this is from the infamous Ritz Camera wedding album that they said the wouldn't release but couldn't help sneaking one out.
payam is an iranian name… but pyeam…. is he iranian?
very insightful, thank you.
I sit threw and talk with with my wife and friends about them. and half the time we are just chilling and learning.
wankers
I love their dynamic
At 33:00 Pye went with the dignified "this is a very unflattering shot" versus Lee saying "unattractive clients" damn dude that's wedding photography. They're not models. They're living their lives ffs. I'd hope that my photographer can make me feel beautiful on the most important day of my life.
Thank God I feel much better now. I wish there was a prograpm for an old dinasour like me to get back in the wedding photography game. Currently studiing SEO to see if I can give my website / business a bit of a boost. gabrielhernandezphotography.com PS I was born in Puerto Ricon in Ponce but I lived in San Juan / Carolina area…love to see some comments about the area Old San Juan and the rest of the Island.
