Hah-hah, not a surprise here. Multiple kittens are notoriously difficult to get to look at the camera simultaneously.
Tell you what: lower one's bar to just a picture of surprised looks. If you do that, you just need something to lure all the kittens together (meal-times work), and then make a weird sharp noise, like pushing air through closed lips, and snap the photo. You get goofy startled faces, but you still get them.
