Part 1: Macro Photo with a Strobe | Olympus TG-5 Best Camera Settings for Underwater Photography
In this video series we are breaking down the best settings for underwater photography with the Olympus Tough TG-5. This is part 1, where we cover macro photography when using a strobe. Learn more here:
Love using the TG5 and currently looking into strobes. Does the camera work well with Ikelite's DS51 strobe?
Hi Robin, does the fill in option means the flash from the camera will always be at full power? and if it is, would that still be ok? because the TTL mode on my ys03 will adjust the amount of light coming out of the strobe?
Hi Robin, if you dont mind could you please share/recommend strobe positioning for a dual strobe setup? Thank you
Hi, What modes should I use if I have no strobe please that you talk about in this video please?
Is the exposure compensation really doing what you suggest?
In my TG5, in microscope mode, when I set exposure compensation anywhere between -2.0 and +2.0 with internal flash enabled, exposure compensation does not change anything (neither how exposed is the image northe exposure time or aperture). Only with internal flash disabled, I can see how dialing exposure compensation from -2 to +2 is changing the exposure of the photo (by means of changing the exposure time). Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work with your instruction videos!
One thing that is not mentioned is that the TG-5 has only two apertures f2 and f2.8 at the wide end which become f4.9 and f6.3 at the Tele end. Stopping down further brings in a 3 stop ND filter, it doesn;t get you any extra depth of field, so I'd suggest the A mode and setting your aperture so you are not throwing light away. You can do most of the same thing by taking it off auto ISO and setting it to 100-200 in P mode. The camera is quite happy to bring in the ND filter and up the ISO to 800 in P mode making noise, setting it to A mode means your images won't be as nosiy and ISO will be 3 stops lower than it otherwise would be.
Why your TG5 have F10 but my TG5 don't have?
Do you recommend shooting 16:9 or 4:3?
Having trouble getting the strobe to fire. Can you go over the setting again? I have it for fill in flash and the stroble at sttl but only the camera is flashing.
Which one has the best pictures for print?? Tg-870 or tg-5? Thx
How big i can print a picture from that camera underthewater??
Can you attach a red filter ?
Whre u get the strobe like that
Is there any accesory that fits the 52mm front thread to mount color correction filters?
I need one that can easily swing on and off while filming underwater
Great guide! Do you have any idea when the wide angle guide will be posted?
I was struggeling with getting the right settings. Was really frustrating… thank u so much for These instructions. Wish i had them 2 weeks ago. Next vacation is coming anyways.
Can i set the setting without strobe & photo will be better than normal underwater mode?
Wide angle is better for underwater methinks, and are olympus' default settings for when you dont have extra lighting? iso 100 and f9 means its dark underwater without that strobe
Nice and informative, awaiting for part 2. Please mention how to handle undwater colors in green water and how to adjust the camera for red color adjustments underwater. Please guide how to do both colors adjustments for video and imaging.
Excellent video. If possible I would like to see a similar video with best settings for the Panasonic LX10.
Very goodddd… do you have the link for rest of the settings? i mean part 2
Very useful. Do you plan to do something similar for Sony RX100 IV?
