I’m Lucas Botz, I’m a professional photographer in Minneapolis Minnesota. Shooting senior portrait and wedding photography. I love capturing interesting, creative photos of people being themselves. Not a pose, not a certain style that’s going to go out. It’s to capture who they are. You know, that natural smile they give when they’re genuinely happy.
I love that seniors are starting a whole new journey. Seeing yourself in that early phase of life is really a fun thing. Like I said, I have one. I’m wearing a black turtleneck on a black background. (No you are not!) I just look back and think ‘God, that guy’s stupid’. (laughs)
So this is what it looks like on a senior shoot. You come to my studio. You come in a bit early and we plan it out. Not everybody’s the same so I like try to cater it to making sure that we go to location s that fit you. Then we look at outfits. And try to plan out where were going with the outfits you that you’re wearing. Once we have the outfits lined up, then we’re ready to shoot.
Basically what I’m doing is I don’t have a preset place where I’m just going to just churn out a photo. I’m looking for beautiful light that’s going to make you look amazing. And then capture it uniquely and in multiple angles so you have options. I really believe that each student is interesting, notable, relevant beautiful, one of a kind, valuable, important, extraordinary & loved. I don’t think it takes a certain size, or gifts, or looks, to feel that way. I think you have to see yourself for who you are. If they look at a photo of themselves and can feel one of those things and most importantly feel loved… I’ve done my job.
