I did a small group [4 people] inside using a reflector behind me with my flash pointing at the reflector. Turned out pretty good.  I tried the reflector behind me because I was getting shadows in my picture. I try different things when I have a problem and this worked [no shadows].

What would be the best set up for a group shot outside of about 50 people.

    That's a really helpful technique

Nice video… how about light placement when subjects are wearing glasses… keep the lights higher?  There always seems to be that individual who has very reflective glasses that your lights show up in.  Thanks for the demo

Hi Mark, I have my diploma in photography but there is still so much to learn and I have found your lessons to be very helpful. I am going to be doing a large family shoot soon and was wondering if you have a lesson on out door group photos, I have not been able to find one. If not cane you give me a few pointers on how to use the natural light to ge the best result. Thanks

@ErnieCosmo So in other words, it isn't the same at all. Sunlight + no big white wall behind you. =P

  22. Claggy says

So what about lighting big groups outside?

  23. Claggy says

@yowu7446 Or just put Digital Photography 1 on 1 after the title instead of before! Either way would help.

  24. George Torres says

This video is really cool. Thank you for sharing. Are you letting any ambient light into these group photograph you are taking on this video? Are you at your maxim syncs speed?

  25. Alan Wu says

I just want to suggest; "can you please name your episodes, with the Digital Photography 1 on 1 abbreviated? Like "DP1-1-Title". It is really hard to go through the list on your channel, where the title is always long and is hidden.

  26. Majdilicious says

Can you get the same result using a speedlight bouncing of the wall?

  27. oghuz79 says

I wonder if shoot through umbrella works well as the octobox?
