Natural light just isn’t as sharp when you crop into the photos. I only shoot natural when it’s too windy and I can’t use a off camera flash.

  2. Budget Snaps says

Shots done with flash look so much better to me anyway…

  3. Gelo Soriano says

Both of you have produced great pictures!

This wasn’t a fair comparison of the two cameras at all. As for the different approach to lighting….the photographer who knows how to deal with off camera flash and high speed sync has far more tools to pick from when the needs arise. The people who only know how to work with available light are limited in their skill set.

I prefer the closer shots in Portrait photography. Craig came closer to what I like but I'd go closer still and if the background isn't in the picture why go outside, just do it in a studio? As for wedding shots I like Josh's shots which retain some of the background but again I'd come in closer. But if you are to compare the two brands you have to shoot the same way, that is with strobe or not and at the same positions with the model moving freely otherwise a comparison is more about taste in shooting rather than what shoots better.

That butterfly pose with the modifier pose did a nice chisel on the jaw.

  7. Gregory Foreman says

Craig, I just came across your work. Love your style and editing. Looking forward to devouring your channel! Josh is great also.

  8. Gavin Davidson says

I dig both of the looks. I’m not scared of high end retouching. I like it doing it, it’s fun and one can end up with a cool look. That’s the beauty of digital. The natural lighting shot are also super cool. What Godox off camera flash are you using? It works really nicely. Thanks for the vids, they are really helpful. Yes, I think you should do more vids with Josh on this type of vibe.

  9. Terry Breedlove says

Why bring the a model to a beautiful location if you blow it all out with a really wide aperture. Loved the strobe lighting most but you both nailed it.

  10. Rob O says

More Josh. I liked what he said about including the location in Wedding shots. So the blur is dependent upon the needs of the client and the situation-location. This makes a lot of sense. You need to know when to do what, shoot for the background, or blur it away.

Love it. Can you please share your settings. Thanks

What's your thoughts on diffusers vs umbrellas

  13. Gaijin Guide says

I agree more with Josh about whether to show the background or not. My favorite type of Photography is "Landscape Portraits" (if thats a term) I like to do portraits in front of really nice scenery and show the scenery with minimal blur

  14. Adam hindustani says

Great work. Helpful for me lot

  15. Dieter Smeets says

    Which C-stand is this? Thanks!

Craig’s looks like it was done in a studio, you can’t even tell it was outdoor, super studio photochopped glamour look. Josh had the more natural looking you can tell it’s outdoor. For me personally it’s about taste. The indoor studio is nice but if it’s for a models portfolio or makeup company ad, it’s appropriate. If it’s a wedding, engagement, model portfolio, fashion shoot, family/lifestyle then Josh’s pictures are appropriate for those. I don’t see many studio looking photos these days as Instagram really sets the tone of what’s current or trendy. Only studio photos for makeup shots i.e. Lancôme Covergirl L’Oréal or hair products. I guess older people still like that look for personal photos?

  17. Adita Perez Photography says

Just seen this and Craig and I LOVE your shots! I got the Xplor 600 about 2 months ago and I love to make that bkground buttery like you did…altho I was also critiqued that it looked like a backdrop in studio lol oh well
Great job! Thx for not making me feel like I did something wrong as a newbie to OCF

  18. James Mason says

Great subjective views on the different shooting styles and great shots as expected from you two. Said respectfully with no insult intended whatsoever I could’ve gotten these with my D7200 crop. With stationary shots it’s more about the lens and the light over brand or even full frame vs crop.

  19. ThePandaPhotographer says

The images are just amazing, You guys did a good jobs

  20. Jérôme Jheelan Photography says

    Natural ones are miles better.

  21. JP dJ says

Craig's shots look more like professional portraits, Josh's photos look more like snapshots for the family album. Studio versus event attitude.

  22. Roy Sweetland` says

I think we should see both Post-shoot Toning and photoshop manipulations in comparing apples to apples, most professional photoshop enhancement can enhance the photo after capture

  23. viralvideopromotion says

Nice comparison guys on off camera flash / high-speed sync and natural light.

  24. Jaden Alexander says

Hi. Really enjoyed your video. My question is what type of tripod are you using?

  25. Lonzos Studios says

dude, your retouching skills are just crazy, sick, dope, ridiculous, mad!!!!!

  26. JeongDenis says

Hello. Both of the shots are amazing. The ones from you looks like studio skots, I was stunned. I had a crush on Josh's ones also because I love outdoor natural light photos. So more of Josh would be a great idea ^^ again great job to you both.

    Great Shots

  28. Anubhav Hirani says

Hello Craig, I use a Nikon D750 with Godox AD600 pro with latest X pro trigger, I noticed because of some reason flash doesn't fires in some shots I've no clue why this is happening, there is nothing to do with recycling speed of flash since I tried manually test firing using trigger and it works perfectly fine, facing the issue only when trigger attached on a camera. Any solution? Anyone else facing the same?

  29. Mike Menegus says

i would have liked to seen the un-edited shots.

  30. TJ Perez says

Like the comparison! Love that Nikon portrait with the blue water and perfect skin tones! Have josh on more!

  31. Joel Caraballo says

What was the white balance settings on Josh's camera?

  32. Divi Photos says

Both of great photographer I like both styles keep up the good job very nice video I enjoy thank you for sharing

  33. Heru Rishardana says

With the off camera flash photo seems like it can be done in the studio and not necessarily an outdoor photography. But the results are very good though much better than the natural light photo in the first setting. On the second setting, they are both very good. Thanks for sharing this video.

  34. Ken Konard says

With outdoor portraits, I work to use natural light whenever possible but try to add catchlights to the eyes. That requires a speed light off camera but subtly done. Or a well positioned small reflector.
