Why is everyone bitching? Some good info here and some pricing that everyone wishes they could charge. XD.

I have my very first Corporate headshot shoot in three weeks times, I wasn't even sure whether I should take it or not because I've never worked with studio lighting or any indoor shoot ever, I have to rent out equipment I'm working on a budget. Do you have any advice or tips on what I should do?

Thumbs down for tricky title to a commercial. Note to self: Fstopppers = commercial.

  8. Sheldon Pleasant says

Yeah a lot of this channels stuff is a commercial to get money. Have no issue with it if that what you are about. But dont have people wasting their time looking at it and then it's all about marketing to get people to buy your product. If you want to market then market but let people know so they can decide if they want to look at it. It's like a long annoying ad on YouTube that interrupts your reason for even coming to YouTube.

I was sold on this until I went to go buy it…$300??? really? I mean I respect the craft and I like his method but I think from the trailer here I've got the idea. There's no way I'm paying $300 for a youtube video's worth of info. I've watched hundreds of YT videos that have given me a wealth of free information. I expected to see $19, maybe even $29, which I might have paid to see this info, but 300 f-ing dollars? And what is this, it's a 10+ hour course? Sounds like it filled with a bunch of bullshit. You know, I come to YouTube to get away from academia, which by the way is the biggest hoax out there. Pay 200K to spend way too much time in a place you hate so that you can put a line on a resume. You basically recreated that with your f-stoppers store. Total disappointment. You guys should be ashamed of yourself. The training and tutorials should be quick and cheap. Then you'd sell more. Disparage me if you like but I'm right.

He didn't get me with this sale pitch here. The shots were mediocore, and his attention to detail destroyed any natural looks. So basically I fumble around with my settings and equipment for an hour to take a picture that I post-edit until it looks clinical.

I would love to get some photos with him. I don't want a career as a photographer. I just need a good photographer.

  32. Aleksandr Vardanyan says

If I was an Abercrombie model for 12 years then randomly started a photo business with the connects I have, shit I'd charge 20K for a single headshot lol. Just buy 3-4 constant lighting lights and 1-2 strobes for fill light and set them up in a way that accompaniment the talent's face and learn how to talk to people (just bullshit as much as you can) and learn basic facial expressions and pay attention to their hair and what in general makes the individual people look good when shooting and avoid awkward bullshit poses – that's all, no need to look up to dudes that just got lucky based on connections “attention to detail" isn't that what all photography is about? If anyone has photo questions feel free to ask me I won't charge you money for it at all and if you are in need of headshots in Los Angeles area I charge 300 per sesh (retouched and everything) 😉
