Fact check the Dorothea Lange story here and in the Dorothea Lange podcast, because you've got two different stories going' on.

minimalize civilian casualties? c;mon guys, markets have no morals and capitalists engage in war cuz the mode of production requires it. They need war. And photos don't change history, class struggle does. Photography tho powerful is just a tool for propaganda be it progressive or bourgeois – but all art is a political tool of a class

    Great Show,!!!! thank you !!!!

A good friend of mine was there during the Malcom Brown photo. He was a Recon Marine during the Vietnam War. His story about that scene is very interesting. But even weirdly inspiring.

My grandparents also had a National Geographic collection and I used to do exactly the same thing! Great memories 🙂

This was a great podcast and I loved watching. I myself as a child always scrolled through my grand fathers and fathers National geos and to this day they have made a mark on my life. At the age of forty I am picking up my first DSLR and I am on a mission to document my prospective on the world. Thanks for keeping me humble and to appreciative the powerful emotional that is photography.

Great episode that goes beyond the hardware and more about the art and it's influence. Excellent!

I am 69 years old. Do you think I can start to learn photography? Please advice some easy to learn cameras if it is not so late for me.

Photography definitely change my perspective. Example is this video/ pod cast. I listened to your pod cast with headphone at work and watched this video today, I trying to imagine the photos that Chelsea describes in the pod cast versus actually look at the photo in this video, it definitely strike a much deeper nerve. eg children in coal mine and farmer with dead child in the Vietnam war. P.S. please make more pod cast, I am running out of episodes….

Today was my dads birthday. He was a photographer, old school, of course, taking photos from the early 1930s till he passed away in 1975. So finding this podcast/video and just watching it now was so wonderful. I have been following and appreciating you both for the last few months, and my admiration just keeps growing. And when you throw in this kind of podcast, I just love you all the more. I am a visual artist and photographer but still have so much to learn. What a resource you are to have stumbled upon! Thank you!

Thank you for your sensibility as well as your technical expertise. Chelsea, you get this on an emotional level and you present it well…I think you could make 4 of 5 on this topic and not drop a bit of quality. Well researched and well done.

Thank you both so much for creating these videos…I feel like I'm back in college again, but better. I will email you two in the near future to go into more depth but for now, I like your tech, instructional, and review videos but so many people do these… Your "Picture This" videos are unique. informative, and touching ad I LOVE them and I have recommended them to family and friends. Thank you both again so much!

Like Tony said here photography has affected my ability to notice things. Sometimes when I point out something to my girlfriend she is like "how did you notice that?". Photography teaches you to see things. So often we are just so focused on where we are going instead of the journey and what you can see on it. It makes you respect and appreciate the beauty of nature so much more.

Great podcast-great image. Thought provoking. I used my point and shoot SONY the year I was in Iraq and it changed the way I thought about the war.

  25. Ashley Barnard says

so true, photography does stand the test of time if not for photography we would just have someones word, which is not as powerful as an image, and an image in print, to feel it in your hands even more so. So many people just see images on their phone or screen, but to hold an image in your hands now that packs punch.

  26. Patrick says

Tony and Chelsea I could write a paper on how much photography has helped me. It helped my self esteem when I had a nervous breakdown due to mental illness. It helped me lose 100 pounds. It helped me feel like I belong in this world because I have Asperger's and I never really felt like there was a place for me in this world. I've never really received any compliments in my life and now when someone says "Wow Patrick your photography is amazing" I feel like I deserve to hear that sort of thing now. I saw one of Trey Ratcliff's photos one day and I said "I want to create that" so I've been kinda mixing HDR with conventional photography for about 2 years now. I think I created something awesome with my method. Also, 759K subs is almost 1M. So close!!!
